Charles Jenkins 2020 Delegate Candidate for the South Region American Solidarity Party Hello! My name is Charles Jenkins, and I wish to submit myself to be a delegate for the second time for the American Solidarity Party. I am a resident of Durham, North Carolina, where I first became involved in the party in the summer of 2016, and, as a Roman Catholic, was looking for a way to advance the common good in a way that respected and was open to the ideals of Catholic social teaching in a pluralistic society. I am a husband and father of one, and work as an accounting technician, financial journalist and editor, and webmaster. It is partially in my experience on the edges of the financial world, and in my prior experience working with advocacy groups for the rights of homeless, poor mothers, small businesses, and Christian charities, and continued volunteer work with the same, and with my local community, that I became deeply convicted of the bankruptcy of our governing norms of individualism. Previously independent, having been unable to commit myself to any other political party, I was very happy to find a still small but growing and energetic group of people dedicated to a communitarian vision, a “consistent life ethic”, inspired by the early aspirations of Christian Democracy. I did not expect that so many of these people I would develop strong bonds with, but since then I have become active in my state chapter of the ASP, and am now serving on a newly reformed provisional state council, and look forward to serving the party to help bring about another round of hopeful exponential growth in the next few years. One of my favorite hobbies is pelican spotting while fishing, and another is naming drinks I concoct after ASP related trivia, so I hope these are qualifications. I believe the American Solidarity Party should look out for protecting the image of God in all people, in promoting an integral society that is not split into a thousand atoms each fighting each other, and a recognition of a common, natural law. I am in a very strict application of just war principles to limit American militarism, in uplifting what we often call a distributist vision of economy in which all the parts work towards widespread ownership of productive property with 1 Charles Jenkins policies specifically tailored towards this, while defending robust conservation of the environment and the strengthening of local communities, and of marriage and the offspring of this fundamental coupling. A clear, radical vision of the common good of all for all, and for a strong participatory democracy governing the party is what I bring to the table. I hope I am worthy of your vote. 2 Charles Jenkins Q&A Re: My vision for the next Stage of Party development: Primarily one of getting our name and goals out there using the methods we already have gotten attention from and doubling down on them while supporting building up a solid base in all the state chapters so the next four years can see teams with national materials able to do aggressive outreach. Re: Whom I would support for National Committee: Those who are willing to follow through on the will of the membership and have a vision fairly closely aligned with our platform, and who have the drive to see it through. Currently eyeballing Patrick Harris and Dane Garrett. Re: My position on whether to retain a Statement of Principles: As of today, May 22, opposed, as it appears that in order to not be toothless, it needs enforcement mechanisms, all of those I can see only increasing divisions and exclusion in the party. Re: What should be on any Statement of Principles: Nothing. Re: Whether I would support additional Platform Revisions: Not for this convention . 3 Charles Jenkins GALLERY The Southern Hospitality candidate 4 .
