Classes resume Friday, January 15 SCHOOL CLOSINGS SWIP - Early Dismissal 11:00 am The responsibility for school closings has been Monday, January 18 delegated to the superintendent by the Board of No School— Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Education. If a school day is to be cancelled because of weather conditions or other emergencies, the Monday, January 25 stations listed below will be notified by 6:30 a.m. Board of Education Meeting whenever possible. Although it will most likely never happen due to the age of our students, the stations will be notified as soon as possible if school is to be dismissed early in the day, and they will be asked to repeat the announcement several times. Such an announcement means that the closing involves all District 108 schools. An individual building will not be named unless the emergency affects only that particular school. COLDER WEATHER The time has come to dig up the winter gear again! During the coming months, the temperature will steadily drop. The students will still be outside unless there are extreme weather conditions. Please make sure that they are properly dressed for winter conditions by wearing coats, gloves, scarves, or any other school appropriate items to keep them warm. Thank you for your cooperation! Broadmoor Junior High School Ty Goss ~ Principal 501 Maywood Avenue ~ Pekin, IL ~ 61554 309.477.4731 December 19, 2020 Dear Broadmoor Parents / Guardians: In accordance with Public Act 85-680, our health curriculum, and our continuing efforts to foster a school climate of respect for one’s self and others, we are offering two units of study for our students, Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Substance Abuse Prevention. The boys and girls will be meeting in separate locations. In the past, parents have found this unit to be a positive part of their children’s schooling. These programs meet state health curriculum requirements and promote abstinence. The programs have been scheduled to begin in January 7, 2019. Your student would meet with a Tazewell County Health Department and Broadmoor Junior High instructor for 8 sessions during the month of January. These sessions would be scheduled during your child’s P.E. class. The program is designed to help junior high students build skills in order to make healthy decisions. Adolescents hear a lot of “talk” from their friends and sometimes it’s hard for them to sort through what they think everyone else is doing and decide what is best for them. Broadmoor Junior High School and the Tazewell County Health Department would like the opportunity to help students clear up misinformation, think about the changes ahead, learn how to make good decisions, and give them opportunities to practice resistance skills in a comfortable, supervised setting. The program is designed to: (1) promote positive personal behaviors, (2) improve self-esteem, (3) teach basic assertiveness and resistance skills, (4) define abstinence, and (5) provide interpersonal support. The following topics will be covered: (a) A new version of you is emerging, what will that look like?, (b) Feelings and Relationships, (c) Abstinence - How to use refusal skills, (d) Making healthy decisions, (e) Dealing with self-esteem issues and peer pressure, and (f) Let your best points shine. We look forward to your son or daughter participating in this unit. In accordance with state law, you have the right to ask that he or she be excused from this unit. To have your son or daughter excused, please call me (477-4731) or email me ([email protected]). If you would like to preview course objectives and content before you make your decision, please call the school office for an appointment. Sincerely, Ty Goss Ty Goss Principal Pekin Public Schools 501 Washington St Principal, Mr. Goss Assistant Principal, Mr. Ross Secretary, Mrs. Irby Clerk, Mrs. Zurhorst .
