Final - March 5, 2013 Little Jackfish River HYDROELECTRIC POWER PROJECT HISTORY OF LITTLE JACKFISH In 1943, Ontario Hydro, Ontario Power Generation’s predecessor, completed the Ogoki Diversion, which was designed to divert water from flowing into the Ogoki River as it had done until then, and have it flow to Lake Nipigon down the Little Jackfish River into the Great Lakes system. This was done to provide more water for power generation to support Canada’s efforts during World War II. Two dams were built as key parts of the diversion to increase flows down the Little Jackfish River to an average of about 120 cubic metres per second, up from 4 cubic metres per second before. The Waboose Control Dam on the Ogoki River prevented water from flowing north into the Arctic Watershed, and the Summit Control Dam built at the northern end of Little Jackfish River controlled flows down the river.
