The total nunfaer of records is now 32,603. -3- NLM TECHNICAL BULLETIN - JAN 79 A new "toxic effect" phrase has been added and can be searched as EQUIVOCAL TUMORIGENIC AGENT(IX). One change has been made in the class of compound field; CARCINOGEN(CC) has been expanded to CARCINOGLN-NEOPLASTIGEN(CC) and must be searched as shown, with the hyphen. AVLINE UPDATE Linda Kudrick, Technical Services Division, NLM ENHANCEMENTS TO AVLINE As of February 1, AVLINE citations have been class updated to reflect the 1979 MeSH. There have also been several changes in the AVLINE data base which are designed to enhance search capabilities or to clarify existing Information. The new Online Services Reference Manual will reflect these changes. I. Rating tag The use of the tag HIGHLY RECOMMENDED has been relnstltuted. All titles re- viewed since 1976 which are described as highly recoMMended In the critical abstracts, but which were previously tagged RECOMMENDED are now searchable by HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (RD). II. Learning Method tags A. Beginning with titles reviewed in 1979. the tag SUPPORT replaces the tern LECTURE SUPPORT. Continuing Education Credit tag All AVLINE titles which Indicate the availability of continuing education credit are now directly searchable through a new tag CE CREDIT (RO). A corresponding note detailing the specific type and muter of CE units for the title Is printable In a newly defined Continuing Education Credit Note (CR). This note prints automatically In the standard PRT and PRT DETAILED, but can also be added to any tailored print command. III. Audience level tags A. Two new audience level tags have been added for searching. They are: 1. NON-DEGREE/TECHNICAL Programs leading to a non-degree certificate as In In-house training, or in programs for Nurses' Aids, some physician assistant programs, emergency technician. 2. ADVANCE CERTIFICATE In allied health professions and In nursing education this may be advanced training having programs In specific area4, e.g., nurse practitioners, operating room nurses, etc. Search strategies are Identical to those used for UNDERGRADUATE, GRADUATE AND CONTINUING EDUCATION. Example: SS 1 /C? CATHETERIZATION AND NURSING (RD) AND NON-DEGREE/TECHNICAL (RD) B. Primary Audience Designator Many AVLINE titles are considered appropriate for more than one audience; however, beginning with titles reviewed In 1979, a primary audience will be designated by use of an asterisk (*) directly preceding the term.
