Most notable are the world-class BIF-hosted iron closed (20 August 2021) deposits of Simandou and Nimba and giant gold deposits (e.g., Tasiast, Obuasi, Siguiri). Other mineralisation styles of note include diamond, which occurs extensively in Guinea and Sierra Leone, IOCG (e.g., Guelb Mohrein) and lithium- bearing pegmatites (e.g., Cape Granite Province, Ghana). In the Cenozoic, sedimentary phosphate deposits are developed, as well as extensive bauxite weathering profiles over Mesozoic dolerites in the Fouta Djallon–Mandingo bauxite province. There has been a flurry of new work across West Africa, and this Special Issue invites researchers to submit new ideas on the tectonic evolution of West Africa as related to mineralising systems, covering any commodity and across the entire geological history of West Africa.
