LDWA Wessex Group ‐ St Ives Weekend Away ‐ ITINERARY Starting Point Walk Leaders Name Length Ascent & Descent Notes & OS Map Reference To get there on the Saturday, follow the A30 2 miles past Launceston as far as the Oct. 10:30am at the Forestry Commission Kennards House intersection and take A395 signed Camelford to T‐junction with A39 after Car Park at Poldue Downs, 10 miles. Turn left and continue to Camelford village boundary sign. 9th Cornwall 1: 4.3 miles 1170 feet 2 miles southeast of Camelford. Nigel Pickett Then take the next left (signed as BODMIN MOOR) and continue on this minor road to its ONLY Rough Tor & Brown Willy Walk 6.9 km 357 metres (Grid Ref SX 138 819) end at Forestry Commission Car Park. No loos or any other facilities. The walk will add 2hrs, maybe 3 at most, to your journey down (OS Explorer Map: 109‐Bodmin Moor) leaving plenty of time to get to St. Ives for the late afternoon tea. Saturday After leaving the House, follow the Tinners’ Way from St Ives, heading through the fields to the picturesque village of Zennor with its medieval church and 9:30am at Chy Morvah Tinners Arms pub. We return along the rugged coastal path to St Ives past Cornwall 2: 12.3 miles 2020 feet (Grid Ref: SW 517 401) dramatic rocky headlands, hidden coves, and sweeping sea views. Ian Beveridge Zennor Coastal Walk 19.8 km 615 metres This walk can be made shorter by using shortcuts at SHORT (OS Explorer Map: 102‐Land's End) Trevalgan, Trevage or Boscubben across to the SWC Path. Oct. This walk is HF Holidays Ltd.'s walk: SV 72 (Zennor to St Ives) with the addition of a loop to The Island or St Ives Head at the end. 10th After leaving the House, we take a scenic route around Rosewall Hill then head further west passing Towednack church to reach more remote moorland. 9:30am at Chy Morvah Sunday We pass Zennor Quoit before gaining the impressive rocky summit of Zennor Hill. We Cornwall 3: 14.2 miles 2450 feet (Grid Ref: SW 517 401) Dave & Lin Mallon/ descend to Zennor village and it's Tinners Arms pub. We return along the rugged coastal LONG Zennor Coastal and Hills Walk 22.85 km 747 metres Geoff Prince path to St Ives past dramatic rocky headlands, hidden coves, and sweeping sea views. (OS Explorer Map: 102‐Land's End) This walk combines two HF Holidays Ltd.'s walks, namely: SV 72 (Zennor to St Ives) and SV 81 (Rosewall Hill & Zennor Hill). The start of the route is across the fields and along a small lane to the edge of Porthleven 10:00am at the Rinsey Car Park on the Harbour where it joins the coast path in The Wrestling Fields. The walk then follows the S W Coast Path, Helston TR13 9TS coast past the Giant's Rock and beaches of Porth Sulinces and Breage to the granite dykes (Grid Ref: SW 592 271) of the Megiliggar Rocks. The walk continues on the coast path to the huge balanced block Cornwall 4: 9.3 miles 1522 feet of granite on Trewavas Head and then follows a permissive path through the middle of Dave Meyer Rinsey Head to Porthleven & Praa 15.0 km 464 metres It is a 15.5mile (27 minutes) drive to the one engine house and past the others before re‐joining the coast path to Wheal Prosper SHORT Sands Walk National Trust car park . on Rinsey Head, then onwards to Praa Sands returning via the inland path back to the Car Park. (OS Explorer Map: 103‐The Lizard) This walk is based on iWalk Cornwall walk: (https://www.iwalkcornwall.co.uk/walk/porthleven_to_rinsey) 11th A figure of eight walk, that starts by walking around the Loe Pool, the largest natural 9:30am at the Fairground Car Park at freshwater lake in Cornwall, and along the Loe Bar, one of Cornwall's most treacherous Porthleven Rd, Helston, TR13 8SG beaches before reaching Porthleven Harbour, where we follow the same route as the Monday (Grid Ref: SW 654 270) Porthleven to Rinsey Head Walk, although with an extension to Praa Sands and it's pub Cornwall 5: Dave & Lin Mallon/ 17.5 miles 2325 feet called Sandbar, before returning back to Porthleven and the west side of The Loe back to The Loe and Praa Sands Geoff Prince LONG 28.2 km 708 metres It is a 18.3mile (30 minutes) drive to the FREE the car park at Helston. We follow the coastal path back to St Ives, passing through 8.3 miles 1340 feet (Grid Ref: SW 517 401) Knill's Monument, Lelant & Calbis the dunes beside Porthkidney Sands, Carrick Gladden and Carbis Bay. 13.35 km 408 metres SHORT Bay Short Walk (OS Explorer Map: 102‐Land's End) Oct. This walk is based on HF Holidays Ltd.'s walk: SV 17 (Lelant and Carbis Bay) Paul Glynn or/and Extra 12th Leader depending on numbers walking. After leaving the House, head up to Knill’s Monument, then over the fields to Lelant via Trencrom Hill, following a section of the St. Michael's Way. We follow the coast path 9:00am at Chy Morvah Cornwall 7: beside the Hayle Estuary and through dunes overlooking Tuesday 10.5 miles 1615 feet (Grid Ref: SW 517 401) Knill's Monument, Trencrom Fort, Porthkidney Sands and Carbis Bay before arriving back at St Ives.
