We use a science based approach to teach the fundamentals of balance and edge control. Our staff is trained in the basics of biomechanics, the sports science field that applies the laws of mechanics and physics to human performance. We use this knowledge to help each skater reach his or her full potential on the ice. The mission of the USFS Basic Skills Program is to provide a goal-oriented program that encourages ice skating at all levels and to enhance the quality of skating skills at these levels. PEAK PERFORMANCE SKATING ACADEMY Specialty Classes Moves in the field, Power and edge class (must be Basic 5 level or above) This class builds power, speed, control and edge quality for figure skaters, incorporating extension and posture. It also builds coordination and quick foot motion with this class filled with turns, steps, brackets, 3- turns, progressive and much more. Skaters Workshop (must be Basic 5 level or above) This class is designed to teach skaters how to perform maneuvers to music. A fun class that helps skaters use their skills in a new, interpretive way. Axel Jump (waltz jump/ loop jump combination) This class is solely designed to learn the axel and double axel jump Off-Ice Conditioning Class A great athletic work-out for the “whole skater” including strength training, endurance exercises and jump techniques. PEAK PERFORMANCE SKATING ACADEMY Contract Ice/Private & Semi-Private lessons Contract ice is available to skating academy and figure skaters. It is used for extra practice ice, semi-private and private lessons. These lessons are a great way for skaters to get more individualized attention and to learn a broader variety of skills. Coaches teaching on Contract ice must be on the Peak Performance Skating Academy staff or sign a guest Coach release form. Skaters are responsible for contacting a private coach and paying the coaching fee. The limit is 22 skaters per contract. All skaters must follow the prescribed traffic pattern. Holiday Camp The JHPPSA will be holding a camp for the Bridge level and up skaters. We will be bring in a couple of guest coaches in to incorporate Dartfish, Jump technique, Movement, Off-Ice training skills, and training for the New Year performance.
