Generalized, diffuse osteopenia is a highly subjective radiographic finding; one must be careful with this “find - ing” because radiographic technique and/or processing can profoundly influence the visual appearance (that is, the darkness or lucency) of bones. For example, a dark film can result from high-kVp technique, high-mAs tech - nique, increased time in developer, or raised developer temperature. Instead, observe specific, more objective features involving the cortices and/or cancellous bone of the second, third, and fourth metatarsals in the dorso - plantar (DP) foot view.
