Department of Public Relations, Chandigarh Administration www.chandigarh.gov.in Press Release Chandigarh, August 26:- The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil administered the oath of office, secrecy and allegiance to the Constitution of India, to Mr. Hardeep Singh Grewal as a Member of the Punjab Public Service Commission, at a brief but impressive ceremony in the Banquet Hall of Punjab Raj Bhavan. Earlier, the Chief Secretary, Mr. S.C. Aggrawal sought the permission of the Governor to start the swearing-in-ceremony. Soon after being sworn in, Mr. Hardeep Singh Grewal signed the oath, counter-signed by the Governor. S. Hira Singh Gabrria, Jails, Tourism, Cultural Affairs and Printing and Stationery Minister, Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, Punjab attended the ceremony. Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Justice K.S. Garewal, Judge International Court of Justice, Mr. Jasjit Singh former Minister, Mr. M.P. Singh, Secretary to Governor, Punjab, Mr. Hakam Singh, Mayor besides many legislators and senior civil and police officers. The family members, friends and well-wishers of Mr. Hardeep Singh Grewal also attended the ceremony. PROFILE Mr. Hardeep Singh Grewal is born in the well known Grewal family of village Jamalpur in Ludhiana District. He is M.A. LLB and a former student leader of Punjab University Chandigarh. He first joined the Indian Army’s prestigious corps of “Judge Advocate General”. In the said selection he was placed second in All India order of merit and rose to the rank of Major. During the army service he served in the counter insurgency operations in North East Sector. He has 4 years war service to his credit and was awarded Clasp Bengal-Assam to Sainya Sewa Medal. After leaving Army he joined the Punjab Judicial service. He served as judicial magistrate at Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Nabha, Mansa, also remained Addl. Member Secretary of Legal Service authority of Punjab at Chandigarh. He became Chief Judicial Magistrate Patiala, from where he took voluntary retirement. Mr. Hardeep Singh Grewal has the distinction of having served the country for about 6 years in Indian Army and more than 14 years in Judiciary. .
