21 LC 123 0175 House Resolution 311 By: Representative Carson of the 46th A RESOLUTION 1 Recognizing and commending Army Colonel Robert Shane Kimbrough upon his induction 2 into the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame; and for other purposes. 3 WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put 4 their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the 5 freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and 6 WHEREAS, Army Colonel Robert Shane Kimbrough valiantly and courageously served as 7 a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army for 25 years, 8 retiring from service in 2014; and 9 WHEREAS, following his distinguished graduation from flight school, Colonel Kimbrough 10 served a combat tour in Desert Storm, demonstrating a deep personal commitment to 11 protecting democracy and being willing to sacrifice his own personal safety and comfort to 12 ensure the well-being of others; and 13 WHEREAS, as a result of his superlative service as an astronaut with NASA, he became 14 commander of the International Space Station in 2016, performing four spacewalks and 15 logging over 26 hours; and H. R. 311 - 1 - 21 LC 123 0175 16 WHEREAS, Colonel Kimbrough is currently assigned as the commander of the Expedition 17 49 SpaceX Crew 2 Mission, which will launch in April 2021 and be conducted for six 18 months; and 19 WHEREAS, his selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of human 20 spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding 21 accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be appropriately 22 recognized. 23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that 24 the members of this body recognize and commend Army Colonel Robert Shane Kimbrough 25 for his effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and this 26 nation; congratulate him upon his induction into the Georgia Military Veterans Hall of Fame; 27 and extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness. 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized 29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Army 30 Colonel Robert Shane Kimbrough.
