Please turn off all electronic devices before you enter the building. We prefer that you leave them in the car; however, you may bring them in for emergencies as long as they are set to mute. Please arrive at services promptly. Worship begins at the scheduled times. Everyone should make an effort to be in the Sanctuary 10 minutes before services commence. If you are not able to arrive on time, please enter the front lobby and then enter from the rear of the Social Hall, and proceed to your seats as quietly as possible. Late arrivals can participate by standing in the back of the sanctuary and refrain from taking seats: - When the Ark is open - When the congregation is standing - During the Rabbi’s sermon - During the two lines of the Sh’ma and the full Amidah . Adults, teens, and children are requested to dress in modest and appropriate clothing for this sacred season. For aliyot and honors, tallit and head covering are our custom. Please return your tallit to the rack where it was hanging when departing the sanctuary, and use the hooks provided rather than wearing or bringing tallit into restrooms. During services, please do not visit or exchange lengthy greetings with friends and family or congregate in the lobby outside the sanctuary, the kitchen, or the rear of the social hall. Voices carry into the sanctuary and present an unwanted distraction to those participating in the ongoing service. We ask that you take any conversation outside the building. Should it be completed, the new front lobby will be available for conversation if and when needed. If you feel your child will become disruptive, we recommend signing up for our baby-sitting service. Please complete the comprehensive form to reserve space for your child. 5 | P a g e Rabbi’s High Holiday Message Rabbi Gila Ruskin Dear Friends, So much has happened to each of us since last Rosh Hashanah! Births, deaths, weddings, funerals, graduations, new jobs, new homes, struggles with illness, adversity that we have overcome, transitions we have survived, realizations that have struck us…and more and more. As we join together to welcome the year of 5779, we seek community to accompany us in mourning, in laughing, in sighing, in crying, and in celebrating. In the lobby of the temple, you will encounter a “bridge” symbolically connecting the year 5778 and 5779. On that bridge, you can record any event that has transpired, a triumph to rejoice, a disappointment to grieve. During the course of our High Holiday gatherings, we will publicly acknowledge your posting. Just sharing it with us and allowing us to be with you in empathy and support can enhance your life. If you choose to keep it anonymous, we will honor that request. Let us as a congregation, cross that bridge together. 6 | P a g e Co-President’s High Holiday Message Wendy Drabinski & Linda Needel Rosh Hashanah is almost here. It is a time of anticipation as we look forward to a new year, a new beginning. It is also a time of introspection. We, as Jews, look at our lives and think of what actions we should do more, what we should do less, and what we should completely cut out of our lives. Each year we strive to be better to our fellow humans, to our families, to our friends, and to our pets. This year we have the added joy of a newly renovated temple. We look around us and are grateful for the many who have contributed to ensure our building will be here for the next generation. We think of the meaningful prayer services that will be held in our newly renovated sanctuary, the beautiful art projects that will be made in our new Art Room, the interesting discussions that will take place in our new Teen Lounge, and the community that will continue to grow and flourish in our temple. We are truly blessed. All of the planning and the work was done with you, our congregants, in mind. This building is your building; it is our building. Now that the work has been done, all that is missing is you. Please come and enjoy Shabbat services in our new sanctuary. Let us know what programs you are interested in for Adult Education and attend with your fellow congregants. Come to our holiday dinners and services. Be an active part of our community. You are needed, and you are welcome. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of Temple Adas Shalom, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year.
