Proactive Drugs Education and Prevention in Fareham and Gosport

Proactive Drugs Education and Prevention in Fareham and Gosport. May 2019 Schools and colleges in Fareham and Gosport have joined together to form a new alliance aimed at keeping their students safe from harm. The focus of this partnership is to educate young people about the dangers of drugs. The member schools have developed their own individual drug prevention and substance misuse strategies. There are a variety of initiatives in place and safeguarding advice is offered throughout the curriculum. Throughout the year, each school and college is also delivering enrichment programmes. Speaking on behalf of the new collaboration, Headteacher at Cams Hill School, Gwennan Harrison-Jones, said, “As headteachers and principals, we all share a common concern about the dangers that drugs present to our young people. We’re determined to ensure that none of our schools or colleges experience substance misuse.” “Prevention and educating our young people to make informed decisions continues to be the main focus for all of our drugs education programmes.” “We are working with a company that uses specially trained dogs to detect any substances that have been brought onto our sites.” “Our overriding message is that we will do everything we can to protect our young people from those who may target them.” This initiative is launched with the awareness and support of local police who will be involved if deemed appropriate. Fareham’s Community Safety Partnership is also a supporter of this new initiative. The schools and colleges working together are: Bay House School and Sixth Form, Brookfield School, Brune Park School, Cams Hill School, Crofton School, Fareham Academy, Henry Cort Community College, Portchester Community School, The Key Education Centre, Fareham College, St Vincent Sixth Form College, and Lord Wilson Academy. The partnership launches the new initiative this week. Information will be given to pupils and all parents and carers will be notified. .
