Stem Can grow into a small tree but often flowers and fruits as a shrub 3-5 m tall. Leaves Numerous yellow glands present on the underside of the leaf blade. Two to four flat glands present on the upper surface of the leaf blade near its junction with the petiole. Leaf blades about 8-14 x 3.5- 6.5 cm. Flowers Floral bracts small and inconspicuous. Flowers about 3 mm diam. Outer surface of the tepals Female flowers. © CSIRO pubescent, inner surface glabrous. Ovary clothed in spine-like projections and yellowish glands. Stigmas two or styles 2-branched. Fruit Capsules sparsely muricate and also clothed in yellowish glands. Seeds globose, about 5 mm diam. Cotyledons cordate, wider than the radicle. Seedlings Cotyledons obovate, about 9-13 x 6-8 mm, 3-5-veined at the base. First pair of leaves with yellow Leaves and Flowers. © CSIRO glands on the underside. At the tenth leaf stage: leaf blade with yellowish glands on the underside and 2-4 flat glands on the upper surface near its junction with the petiole. Stipules hairy, +/- enclosing the terminal bud. Seed germination time 13 days. Distribution and Ecology Occurs in CYP and NEQ. Altitudinal range from near seal level to 400 m. Grows as an understory plant in rain forest and monsoon forest.
