JMJC Newsletter Issue 14 Bolen Makes Round of 32 Chelyabinsk, Russia - August 28, 2014 - Brad Bolen (25) from the Jason Morris Judo Center (JMJC) also representing the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) turned a very good performance at the 30th World Judo Championships to collect 72 points in 66kg on the world raking list. There were 64 competitors in the deep 66kg weight category and Bolen opened his day defeating Chinese Taipei #1, Chia Hung Chien in dominating fashion to reach the round of 32. Bolen then fell to eventual fifth place finisher and 2010 world bronze medalist, Loic Korval (France) and was eliminated from his fourth world championships. 1 JMJC Newsletter Issue 14 Bolen's JMJC/NYAC teammate and Burnt Hills High School graduate, Nick Kossor (28) also performed well in his fourth worlds in a 61 man competitor pool, but was defeated in his first round 60kg match by Lukasz Kielbasinski (Poland). Kossor was the aggressor for most of the bout and had two solid chances to finish the Pole with Juji (armlock) but couldn't quite get it then later in the bout got caught with an armlock himself. Burnt Hills High graduate, Hannah Martin faced a tough draw in her 41 competitor 63kg category. This was her second straight world championships having to go up against #8 seed and eventual bronze medalist, Tina Trstenjak (Slovenia). Martin was defeated by the slimmest of margins, 1-0 picking up one stalling penalty. This is the second year in a row Martin has lost to the bronze medalist as she was narrowly beaten by Grevise Emane (France) 3-2 (penalties) in Rio last year. "Bolen, Kossor & Martin did their country and clubs proud in Russia" their coach, Jason Morris said. "This event features the absolute best of the best and all you can do as an athlete is try and get there and continue to give yourself opportunity" 4x Olympian, Morris continued. 2 JMJC Newsletter Issue 14 3 JMJC Newsletter Issue 14 2014 World Championships Results 60kg 48kg 1.
