Individually Named Endowment Funds Date effective July 13, 2021 This list includes all permanently endowed funds established by generous donors to the University of Rhode Island. This includes named, endowed funds created with a variety of purposes, including support for students, faculty, and programs. All of these funds play an important role in the University’s efforts to improve the academic experience at URI, and each fund that has achieved payout status makes a direct and tangible impact. Please note that this list is current through the date listed above. Some changes may have occurred in the interim. If you would like to search for a specific fund, please use the “find” function. The list is presented in alphabetical order. If you have any questions about the way your fund is listed, please contact the Office of Donor Relations at 401-874-7101. 4 W's Endowment: Williamson West Warwick Wizards Scholarship The endowment shall be used to support a West Warwick High School graduate majoring in any discipline in the College of Business Administration. AAUP General Scholarship Endowment Fund Income from endowment to help support AAUP as per their board. Paul I. Abell Memorial Honors Student Award Fund Income from endowment for grants to deserving students in the Honors Program. Expenses can include but not limited to Honors Senior projects, travel for research, attending conference or related event, or materials related to any particular course or any other expenses as determined by the Director of the Honors program. Ward Abusamra Scholarship in Music & Voice Income from endowment for a scholarship in Music awarded annually to a graduate or undergraduate music major on the basis of excellence. Preference given to students concentrating in voice or choral. Recipient selected by the Music Department Recruitment and Awards committee during the annual spring auditions. Accounting Advisory Board Endowed Scholarship The fund will provide a scholarship for an outstanding accounting student in the College of Business Administration. The recipient will be selected by the College of Business Administration Dean's Scholarship Committee in consultation with faculty in Accounting. Accounting Student Scholarship Endowment Income from endowment will be awarded to Accounting students as selected by the Accounting Department. Dean Adams Student Union Fund Income from endowment for upkeep of the Memorial Union. Fund was transferred from URI to the Foundation in 1989. Karen L. Adams Endowed Scholarship in Communications The endowment shall be used to support a junior or senior female student from Rhode Island, who has a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and who is a student of the Harrington School of Communication and Media. The recipient shall be selected by the director of the Harrington School of Communication and Media, in the conjunction with the dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. Robert A. Adams Memorial Endowment Description to be determined when fund reaches 10K. Robert Adams was a URI Foundation Trustee. Andrew H. Aitken Engineering Scholarship The endowment shall be used to provide annual scholarship support to qualified junior and/or senior students engaged in a full-time course of study in any discipline of engineering. Selection is to be based upon academic merit, and shall be made by the College of Engineering. Page 1 of 112 Individually Named Endowment Funds George & Violet Ajootian Endowed Scholarship Income from endowment for a scholarship awarded annually based on financial need. Recipient selected by Enrollment Services. Aksenova / Manzi Scholarship The endowment shall be used to support undergraduate students who are in the College of Business Administration. Preference will be given to those students who hold at least a 3.50 GPA, show demonstrated financial need and graduated from Providence, East Providence, or North Smithfield High Schools. Al Owens '66 and Robert Bell '65 Memorial Scholarship The Fund will be awarded as a scholarship to an undergraduate student of good academic standing in the College of Environment and Life Sciences. Preference will be given to applicants interested in agricultural endeavors, including the small farm movement in RI. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected by the Dean of the College in collaboration with enrollment services. Alex & Ani Impact Fund The fund shall be used at the discretion of the President of the University of Rhode Island to support and enhance initiatives at URI having a profound impact on the University, its students and its programs. Alfred C. Bachelder Mechanical Engineering Scholarship The Fund shall be used to provide annual scholarship support to a qualified Junior or Senior student(s) who is pursuing an undergraduate degree or a graduate student(s) in Mechanical Engineering. Selection shall be restricted to a veteran or student enrolled in the ROTC program. Selection by the Dean of the College of Engineering is to be based upon academic merit. Alfred J. Verrecchia Distinguished Business Intern Program The Fund shall support a temporarilty restricted endowment to establish the Alfred J. Verrecchia Distinguished Business Intern Program. Recipients will be selected by the Dean of the College of Business in consultation with the Associate Dean and Assistant Dean. Awards up to $10,000 will be made to qualified students who have secured an internship position that provides them with a competitive advantage. It will provide financial assistance including living expenses to students pursuring internships that are relevant to their career development. To be considered, qualified student must meet the following criteria: have documented financial need, be a full-time rising junior or senior in the College of Business with a minimum GPA of 3.5, be actively working with an internship advisor and have completed the submission of a cover letter and resume which effectively communicates qualifications for the internship. Alfred J. Verrecchia Distinguished Business Scholars The Fund shall support a temporarily restricted endowed scholarship to establish the Alfred J. Verrecchia Distinguished Business Scholars Program, which will attract the most highly sought-after students from around the country and internationally seeking admission into the College of Business. This program will establish a community of scholars with outstanding academic profiles, as well as intellectual curiosity and demonstrated leadership skills. These students will be referred to as the Verrecchia Scholars. Heidi Allen Memorial Scholarship Income from endowment, established by parents and friends of Heidi Allen awarded to a student with financial need who is a political science major. Robert W. Allen Memorial Scholarship In memory of Robert W. Allen, Ph.D. '72. Income from endowment for a science major, either an undergraduate or graduate student, with a GPA of 3.00 or better. Governor & Mrs. Lincoln Almond Scholarship Income from endowment for a scholarship awarded annually to a Rhode Island resident in need. Page 2 of 112 Individually Named Endowment Funds Alpha Delta Pi Endowed Scholarship The Fund shall be used to support a sophomore, Junior or senior student in high academic standing and with financial need, who is an initiated member of Alpha Deta Pi sorority. Recipient selected by the Office of Enrollment Services. Alpha Xi Delta (Beta Upsilon) Scholarship The fund shall support a student, who is a member of Alpha Xi Delta at the University of Rhode Island, has attained a 3.3 minimum grade point average or greater, is a junior or senior, is a student leader and in good standing in the sorority as determined by the Office of Greek Life. Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae in graduate programs at the University of Rhode Island may also be considered. However, if no member if Alpha Xi Delta qualifies, then the scholarship shall go to a member of another sorority who otherwise qualifies, and if no member of a sorority so qualifies then the scholarship shall go to an otherwise qualifying student resident on the Kingston campus. The recipient shall be selected by the Office of Greek Life based upon the above criteria provided that the award otherwise complies with applicable law. " Robert J. Alvine / Premier Subaru / Kia of Branford, CT Scholarship The fund shall be used to award scholarship to students in the College of Business Administration with preference from New Haven County, Connecticut who have financial need. The College of Business Dean's Scholarship Committee shall select the recipient annual based on the student's essay of financial need. Christiane Amanpour Journalism Lecture Series Fund Income from endowment for a lecture series in the area of journalism. Amar/Tapati Lahiri Endowed Fund for University Libraries The fund shall be used at the discretion of the Dean of Libraries for the general benefit of University of Rhode Island libraries. Harry Amaral Memorial Scholarship Fund The Fund will be used to provide additional financial support to Rhode Island students, who are participating in the Rhode Island DCYF Post Secondary Tuition Assistance Program. American Screw Company Foundation Scholarship Income from endowment for a scholarship awarded annually to worthy graduate or undergraduate students. Preference given to children of former employees of the American Screw Company. Recipient selected by Enrollment Services. Amica Mutual Insurance Endowed Scholarship The endowment shall be used to provide annual scholarships for full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island. The University’s Office of Enrollment Services will select annual award recipients based on need. Student recipients must be in good academic standing in order to receive the award. Any student recipient may renew the award annually through college matriculation as long as he/she maintains good academic standing.The University will award three Amica scholarships in equal amounts. These three scholarships will be awarded each year until the amount of the individual awards equals $2,000. Once the amount of each scholarship award equals $2,000.
