Title Author Reviewer Genre Rating Stormbreaker Anthony Horowitz Grenestedt, K. Action 8 Novel Review: Imagine being a spy. Sounds fun doesn’t it? Well Alex Rider is only 14 when his uncle dies in a car “accident” and Alex is dragged into the world of spies and the MI6 and his world is turned upside down. Forced into special SAS training he gets ready for his first mission. Then, armed with his own special set of secret gadgets, he's off on his first mission to Cornwall, where Middle-Eastern multi-billionaire Herod Sayle is producing his state-of-the-art Stormbreaker computers. Sayle has offered to give one free to every school in the country - but there's more to the gift than meets the eye. Forced into situations that most average adults would find terrifying and probably fatal, young Alex rarely loses his cool although at times he doubts his own courage. Using his intelligence and creativity, and aided by non-lethal gadgets dreamed up by MI6's delightfully eccentric, overweight and disheveled Smithers like an explosive Game Boy, Alex is able to extricate himself from situations when all seems completely lost The way the author makes the character Alex seem alive is amazing. The things he has to go through and his reactions make it feel like you are hearing everything from his view. Envision having to fight one of the deadliest jellyfishes ever that will kill you almost instantly while causing immense pain or imagine . I guarantee you’ll get hooked into these series. Other books from the Alex Rider series include (in order) Storm Breaker, Point Blank, Skeleton Key, Eagle Strike, Scorpia, Ark Angel, and Snake Head. All of which are exciting fast paced and will make you keeping turning the pages to see what happens. The author is great at making almost every chapter a cliff hanger and suspenseful making it unable to stop. The books also revealed parts of his past and things that he had to go through also as a kid. For example his father was a very secretive man and when threatened with bankruptcy he moved his whole family fortune from Swiss bank accounts into another account under a false name. Sadly he died shortly after words and they never found all that money. As a kid Anthony loved the James Bond series which made him get the idea for 14 year old Alex Rider. As he said “I found solace in boyhood in the escapism of the James Bond films and Bond's glamour translates perfectly to the 14-year-old psyche.”Bond had his cocktails, the car and the clothes. Kids are just as picky. It's got to be the right Nike trainers (sneakers), the right skateboard. And I genuinely think that 14-year-olds are the coolest people on the planet” .
