Grand National Sweepstake Kit from attheraces.com 1. Cut out all the strips on the following 3 pages and place into a hat. If a player picks a non-runner, you can choose to either refund the ticket or declare it as sheer bad luck - but make sure everyone knows the rules beforehand! 2. Decide on the cost per horse and prize structure e.g. £2 per horse with 1st £40, 2nd £20, 3rd £15, 4th £5 (based on 40 runners). 3. As people draw out horses, add their name to the final page remembering to keep secret which horses are still to be picked. 4. Please note the data, star ratings and comments contained within this sweepstake kit are for information only and At The Races can make no guarantee to their accuracy (otherwise we'd all be millionaires). TIDAL BAY (IRE) 11st - 10lbs | Form: 21-1532 | Trainer: P F Nicholls | Jockey: Sam Twiston-Davies Remarkable veteran who has been very close to his best on his last two starts, following a third under top-weight in the 1 Welsh National with an honourable second to Last Instalment in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown. Handicapper William Hill 14/1 has been very kind, and it will be a surprise if he doesn't fare a lot better than when unseating at the tenth three years ago. LONG RUN (FR) 11st - 9lbs | Form: 32-54U1 | Trainer: N J Henderson | Jockey: Mr S Waley-Cohen Winner of two King Georges and a Cheltenham Gold Cup during a glittering career but not quite the same force nowadays, 2 though he did enjoy a confidence-boosting success at Kelso last time. Handicapper has at least given him a chance and William Hill 12/1 jockey Sam Waley-Cohen has a fantastic record over the big fences but his low jumping is a real cause for concern. HUNT BALL (IRE) 11st - 7lbs | Form: 686934 | Trainer: N J Henderson | Jockey: A Tinkler Huge improver during the 2011/12 campaign when trained by Kieran Burke, the highlight being his success in a novice 3 handicap at the Cheltenham Festival. Seems to be coming back to his best judged on two runs for his new yard following a William Hill 50/1 disastrous spell in America but looks handicapped up to the hilt and is a very doubtful stayer. TRIOLO D'ALENE (FR) 11st - 6lbs | Form: 81-1310 | Trainer: N J Henderson | Jockey: B J Geraghty Took well to these fences when landing last year's Topham and went on to spring a surprise when beating Rocky Creek in 4 the Hennessy at Newbury in November. Failed to land a blow in the Gold Cup after a winter break but could be a big player William Hill 20/1 here if over those exertions. ROCKY CREEK (IRE) 11st - 5lbs | Form: 1113-22 | Trainer: P F Nicholls | Jockey: N Fehily Very lightly-raced eight year-old who has never finished out of the first three over fences and ran a smashing race when 5 runner-up to Triolo D'Alene (5lb better off with that rival here) in the Hennessy. His second to The Giant Bolster at William Hill 16/1 Cheltenham in January on only run after reads well now and he has been targeted at this since. Big chance. QUITO DE LA ROQUE (FR) 11st - 1lbs | Form: 5-F475P | Trainer: Colm A Murphy | Jockey: B T O'Connell 6 A Grade 1 winner over fences as a novice, he has generally looked on the downgrade in more recent times and though not William Hill 40/1 disgraced in a handicap at Punchestown in January he followed that with a poor effort last time. Difficult to fancy. COLBERT STATION (IRE) 11st - 0lbs | Form: U-03U0F | Trainer: T M Walsh | Jockey: M P Walsh A big fancy for last year's race after being chosen by AP McCoy only to unseat the champion jockey at the chair, this ten 7 year-old has just one good effort from five appearances this season to his name yet finds himself 2lb higher. It's hardly William Hill 33/1 ideal that he fell last time either so the percentage call is to look elsewhere. WALKON (FR) 11st - 0lbs | Form: 2P52-U4 | Trainer: A King | Jockey: W Hutchinson Sure to be a popular choice among the locals, Alan King's charge proved his ability to handle the fences when second to 8 Triolo D'Alene in last year's Topham. However, there have been few positives to take from his two outings this term and he William Hill 50/1 has never convinced that he possesses the stamina for three miles, let alone this marathon trip. BALTHAZAR KING (IRE) 10st - 13lbs | Form: 0P-1111 | Trainer: P J Hobbs | Jockey: R Johnson Cross-country specialist who looked as good as ever when landing a second Cheltenham Festival victory in that discipline 9 last month. However, his trail-blazing style saw him fail to last home here twelve months ago and it could be a similar story William Hill 16/1 this time. WAYWARD PRINCE 10st - 13lbs | Form: 76-52P7 | Trainer: Mrs H Parrott | Jockey: Jack Doyle 10 A Grade 1 winner at Aintree as a novice hurdler, he has also scored over fences on the Mildmay course but has become William Hill 66/1 very inconsistent of late, the sole effort of note his second in Wetherby's Charlie Hall Chase in October. Easily passed over. MR MOONSHINE (IRE) 10st - 12lbs | Form: 573112 | Trainer: Mrs S J Smith | Jockey: Ryan Mania Representing the Auroras Encore team, he was pulled up behind his stable-companion twelve months ago but is coming 11 into this year's race in much better form. He enjoyed a happier experience over the fences when third in the Becher Chase William Hill 33/1 but the suspicion is that he might be a shade too high in the weights to make it back-to-back Nationals for the yard. © 2014 At The Races. TEAFORTHREE (IRE) 10st - 12lbs | Form: 203-928 | Trainer: Miss R Curtis | Jockey: Nick Scholfield An excellent third to Auroras Encore last year, he is 2lb lower for his second attempt after a light campaign. Only narrowly 12 denied in a valuable handicap at Ascot following the publication of the National weights, and looks sure to give another William Hill 8/1 good account provided his eighth in the Gold Cup hasn't taken the edge off. ACROSS THE BAY (IRE) 10st - 11lbs | Form: 10-581U | Trainer: D McCain Jnr | Jockey: Henry Brooke Showed up well for a long way before fading to finish fourteenth last year and a slightly more restrained ride could see him 13 improve on that effort. McCain runners can never be ruled out around here but this one has become rather inconsistent William Hill 40/1 and is probably too high in the handicap. DOUBLE SEVEN (IRE) 10st - 11lbs | Form: 111116 | Trainer: M Brassil | Jockey: A P McCoy Very useful handicap hurdler two seasons ago but took his time to make an impact over fences. However, he returned to 14 form with a vengeance this term, winning five races in a row between June and October. Shaped adequately on his winter William Hill 12/1 break return last month ago and should go well for his National-winning trainer if stamina holds up. BATTLE GROUP 10st - 10lbs | Form: 11-1PRP | Trainer: Johnny Farrelly | Jockey: Brendan Powell Pulled off a notable hurdle/chase double over the Mildmay course at last year's meeting but has failed to complete in all 15 three public appearances this season 'proper', refusing to take part on the second of them. Clearly a very risky proposition, William Hill 50/1 though one could see him showing up well for a while if he does consent to jump off. BUCKERS BRIDGE (IRE) 10st - 10lbs | Form: 5-05103 | Trainer: H de Bromhead | Jockey: A E Lynch Reportedly not the easiest to train, this point-to-point graduate is a fair sort on his day – as he showed when winning a 16 Grade 2 novices' chase last season. However, it's difficult to have a great deal of confidence in him judged on his last two William Hill 66/1 starts in handicap company, which have both resulted in heavy defeats. LION NA BEARNAI (IRE) 10st - 10lbs | Form: PP-5714 | Trainer: T Gibney | Jockey: D N Russell Enjoyed his finest hour to date when running out a shock winner of the 2012 Irish National and has been very lightly raced 17 since – his victory in a conditions event back at Fairyhouse in February was just his fifth subsequent outing. Now attempts William Hill 33/1 a double previously achieved by the likes of Papillon and Numbersixvalverde but looks harshly treated. PRINCE DE BEAUCHENE (FR) 10st - 10lbs | Form: 12-3094 | Trainer: W P Mullins | Jockey: P Townend A big fancy for this in 2012 and 2013 only to miss out on both occasions through injury, Willie Mullins' veteran hasn't shown 18 much of his old sparkle in four outings this term. There is also a nagging stamina doubt over this extreme distance and the William Hill 20/1 suspicion is that he will come up short. MONBEG DUDE (IRE) 10st - 9lbs | Form: 3P-3415 | Trainer: M Scudamore | Jockey: P Carberry Former Welsh National hero who has been targeted at this ever since his victory in a valuable Cheltenham handicap in 19 December. Still feasibly treated, he will once again have the assistance of the evergreen Paul Carberry but jumping William Hill 12/1 remains a concern and his come-from-behind style also demands a large slice of luck in such a huge field.
