What is a Jamboree? • Jamboree is a 19 Century USA slang word for a large, outdoor festival style camp for Guides and Scouts • Jamboree is GirlGuiding New Zealand's biggest event - we're expecting almost 2,000 people in 2022 • It is Guide camping on steroids. A tent town will be home for your girl for a week, and she will learn to manage herself alongside the rest of her unit, taking part in a range of activities including opening and closing ceremonies and a campfire, as well as the Ranger or Guide programme activities Why is Jamboree exciting? • For both girls and adults, Jamboree is a time of self discovery, new adventures and new friendships • Girls consistently say meeting girls like them from around Aotearoa is the BEST thing about Jamboree • Over the week they challenge themselves physically and mentally with ambitious fun and challenging activities • Families notice huge growth in resilience, confidence and self esteem What's different • COVID-19 has meant some big changes for Jamboree 2022 • Delayed by one year • Group sizes reduced to allow us to cater to Ministry of Health Alert Level rules • Each group will be able to split into three groups of 100 each, allowing us to continue running within our bubbles • Each unit will be 28 girls plus leaders • There will be nine units in each Group • The most rigorous health and safety plan ever Two events, side-by-side • Jamboree 2022 brings together Guides and Rangers from around Aotearoa • There will be shared moments, including our Opening and Closing Ceremonies • But, each section will have it's own programme, tailored for age and stage and designed to build excitement between the sections The Guides Programme • An exciting mix of adventures both on-site and through the Waikato region will challenge our girls • There will be 12 half-day programmes, so over the course of Jamboree each girl will experience all • This means no one misses out on a favoured activity, instead getting to challenge themselves.... • .... up high, on the water, with new friends, at speed, mindfully The Ranger Programme • The Ranger Adventures are at the heart of any Ranger Event, and 2022 has some great options on offer • All Rangers will begin and end their Jamboree at Mystery Creek • All Rangers will take part in an off-site adventure, taking them to beautiful corners of Te Ika a Maui, where they might.... • .....take on one of Aotearoa's most popular day walks, journey in the dark through an underground river, zip through the canopy, become a master chef, learn how to befriend an alpaca and more.... .
