Main St. Martinton, IL 60951 [email protected] (815)644-1135 03/10/14 TEASER FADE IN: SUPERIMPOSE: "NORFOLK, VA" INT. KIRBY’S BEDROOM - NIGHT KEENA KIRBY (27), an intelligent, dedicated woman, jerks awake. Sweating and panting, she grasps for her pill bottle and shakes two out into her hand. INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT Kirby pours a glass of water. She walks to the end of the room. She steps into something cold and wet. Kirby looks down. Blood. The glass slips from her hand and SHATTERS on the ground. The shards are stained red. INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT The room is draped in darkness. Kirby sees the SILHOUETTE of a body hanging from the ceiling. She dials 911. 911 DISPATCH (V.O) Norfolk 911, what is your emergency? KEENA KIRBY (calm) Hello, yes, my name is Keena Kirby, I want to report a murder. Blood slowly seeps around Kirby’s feet. A poster behind the body shows a comic book character killed in the same way. INT. NORFOLK POLICE CRUISER - NIGHT A pair of policemen chat and wait for speeding drivers. The older policeman, DUNHAM, recounts his stories to the rookie, RANNELLS. 2. DUNHAM When it all comes down to it, Rannells, Norfolk is a pretty quiet place. You’ll be just fine. RANNELLS I can definitely get use to the donuts and coffee. So-- A loud hiss. RADIO (V.O.) All available units, please respond to possible murder on State Street, over. DUNHAM Copy that, 42 on route to State Street. Rannells gives Dunham a nervous glance. DUNHAM Well, I spoke too soon. EXT. KIRBY’S FRONT LAWN - NIGHT Dunham and Rannells arrive on scene. They knock on Kirby’s front door. Kirby opens the door. Her feet and the hems of her pants are soaked in blood. Overcome with nausea, Kirby places one hand on the door frame to support herself. Dunham hurries to catch her. He bellows into the hand-held radio. DUNHAM 10-24, 10-24! I need back-up and an ambulance! Dunham sits Kirby on the steps. DUNHAM Rannells, I need you to clear the scene. I’ll be right behind you. Rannells pulls his gun out. He ventures into the house. 3. INT. KIRBY’S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT RANNELLS Oh god. A disemboweled BODY hangs from the ceiling by a bloodied cape. The entrails of the victim are wrapped around the hands and feet of the body. Dunham jogs in behind Rannells. He swallows hard. Rannells darts out of the room. Dunham takes out his radio. DUNHAM Dispatch? We’ve found the body. There’s no sign of a suspect. FADE OUT. END OF TEASER 4. ACT ONE FADE IN: EXT. KIRBY’S HOME - DAWN Flashing lights from the police and F.B.I vehicles illuminate the neighborhood. JACK CRAWFORD wades through a crowd of uniformed men and women to Kirby’s front door. He looks around. JACK CRAWFORD Who were the first ones on scene? Dunham walks over. DUNHAM My partner and I were, sir. We found her at the door with blood all over her. JACK CRAWFORD Where’s you partner? I need to talk to him. Dunham points toward the ambulance. DUNHAM He’s over there. Rannells shakes under a blanket. Crawford shakes his head and turns to the front door. INT. LIVING ROOM - EARLY MORNING BEVERLY KATZ and JIMMY PRICE sweep the house for forensic evidences. BRIAN ZELLER and Kirby chat off to the side. BRIAN ZELLER I know this is a bad time, but I love your comics, Ms. Kirby. KEENA KIRBY Thank you, and please,call me Keena. (hesitates) Are you going to ask me questions now? Like a good cop-bad cop thing? 5. BRIAN ZELLER What? No, I’m a forensics tech. I don’t handle that stuff. KEENA KIRBY Oh, I was hoping you were the good cop. Before Zeller could answer, a pair of agents escort Kirby out for a statement. Price walks to Zeller. He nudges Zeller with his elbow. JIMMY PRICE So you and Kirby huh? BRIAN ZELLER Don’t even start. JIMMY PRICE I could see it. What do you think Bev? BEVERLY KATZ Bad timing is what I see. Price nods in agreement. Zeller gives Price a disapproving look. JIMMY PRICE Well, she’s not wrong. INT. HALLWAY - MORNING Crawford and Kirby pass each other. Kirby shies away from eye contact with Crawford. Crawford’s gaze follows her out the door. INT. LIVING ROOM - MORNING Crawford joins the team. JACK CRAWFORD So, have we found anything yet? BEVERLY KATZ I’ve just bagged some fibers and checked the body for DNA. But I don’t how much help they will be, the body was dragged through the living room. Most of it is probably from Kirby’s carpet. 6. JIMMY PRICE There is some plastic clinging on the wrists of the victim. I’m gonna see if I can lift some prints off of those. Crawford turns to Zeller. BRIAN ZELLER I’m fairly certain that the disembowelment was done postmortem. But I’ll have to double check in the lab. JACK CRAWFORD Alright, let’s pack up and head back as soon as you’re done. Crawford walks out first, leaving the team in the room. JIMMY PRICE You know what I’ve just realized? This is our first case in a long time without Will. BEVERLY KATZ What? Are you getting out of practice? JIMMY PRICE No... It was kind of nice having a guy like that. I liked him. BRIAN ZELLER Well, don’t tell Jack that. INT. POLICE STATION WAITING AREA - MORNING. An officer leads Kirby to a bench. Kirby looks around. KIRBY’S POV Early morning arrests surround her. Drunks, druggies, and teenage delinquents. BACK TO SCENE Kirby shifts away from the crowd. She dials on her phone. KEENA KIRBY Hello? Doctor? I-- I’m sorry for calling so early. Something’s 7. KEENA KIRBY happened, please call me back as soon as possible. Kirby hangs up. She slumps back onto the waiting bench. INT. LECTER’S CELLAR - DAY. HANNIBAL LECTER saws a human leg. He brings the meat upstairs. INT. LECTER’S KITCHEN - DAY. Lecter prepares Coq au Vin. He braises the meat with wine sauce and mushroom. He leaves the food to cook and cleans up the mess. Lecter flips through his appointment book. His finger slides down a long list of names and stops at Kirby’s. INT. LECTER’S OFFICE - DAY. Lecter patiently waits for Kirby to regain her composure. KEENA KIRBY (sobbing) I-- I’m terrified Doctor... HANNIBAL LECTER Of course you are. A horrific murder has just been committed in your home. Being terrified is perfectly normal. KEENA KIRBY But with my condition, I don’t know what to do anymore. I don’t feel like I’m in control. HANNIBAL LECTER Have you been taking your medication? KEENA KIRBY Yes, everyday. HANNIBAL LECTER Good, and remember personality disorder is a tough thing to cope with. It takes time. I think we are making great progress. 8. KEENA KIRBY Really? You think so? HANNIBAL LECTER Yes, have faith Keena. It will be okay. KEENA KIRBY Thank you doctor. Kirby gets up and shakes Lecter’s hand. Kirby leaves through the private door. Lecter sits down at his desk. Almost immediately, a series of KNOCKS demands Lecter’s attention. Lecter opens the front door to find Crawford with a troubled face. HANNIBAL LECTER Hello, Jack. Lecter motions towards the arm chairs. HANNIBAL LECTER Please, make yourself at home. JACK CRAWFORD Thank you. HANNIBAL LECTER How may I help you today? JACK CRAWFORD Will Graham. HANNIBAL LECTER Ah, yes. I had a feeling you were going to say that. JACK CRAWFORD It seems that my team is at a lost without Will. I’m afraid that we won’t be able to solve anything. HANNIBAL LECTER Jack, you and your team are more than capable of solving murders. You’ve all done it before without Will. 9. JACK CRAWFORD My team seems to have forgotten that. HANNIBAL LECTER Then make them remember. Will was an important asset. But without your team’s expertise, I doubt Will’s profiling would’ve been a lot of help. Lecter waits for Crawford to respond. Crawford rubs his temple. He remain silent. HANNIBAL LECTER I must confess. We both made a huge mistake. I made the biggest one of all. I thought Will could handle the field work. I was wrong. If only I realized the truth earlier. I’m sorry, this whole thing could’ve been prevented. I wish I’d done more to help. JACK CRAWFORD Well, if it’s not too much to ask, I would love to have your input on the new case. HANNIBAL LECTER Jack Crawford, always the opportunist. Crawford gives Lecter a small smile. HANNIBAL LECTER I would be honored. JACK CRAWFORD I’m heading back to my office now if you want a ride. INT. CRAWFORD’S OFFICE - DAY. Crawford and Lecter walk into the office. The team is already waiting for them. JACK CRAWFORD Dr. Lecter has offered his help on the new case. Someone give him a summary on what we’ve found so far. 10. BEVERLY KATZ The body was found in Kenna Kirby’s home. Lecter’s face twitches ever so slightly as his patient’s name is mentioned. BEVERLY KATZ She’s single, works as a comic book illustrator. the victim’s name was Micah Spencer, a local student in Norfolk.
