Exploration for copper, lead, barite in Tuyuk Temirlik district of Almaty region, Kazakhstan. Location and infrastructure Tuyuk Temirlik ore field is located in the extreme southeastern part of the Almaty region, on the territory of Uygur and Raiymbek districts. Almaty city is located 200 kilometers west of the ore field, the nearest settlement is the district center Kegen village located 15 km to the southwest. Tuyuk mine is in the center of the ore field. The state border with China runs 85 km to the east of the ore field, the border with Kyrgyzstan is 40 km southwest of it. Power and telecommunication lines are concentrated in the settlements along the Almaty-Narynkol highway. The nearest highway Almaty-Kegen-Narynkol passes directly through the district. The railway station nearest to the area is located in Almaty (260 km). Fig. 1. Overview map of the Tuyuk-Temirlik ore area The largest geographical unit of the district - Ketmen ridge - extends in the latitudinal direction of the territory of Kazakhstan by 150 km and extends to China, a bit deviating to the north-east. In the north, the ridge is bordering with the Ili depression, in the south Kegen basin. At the western edge they are subdivided into two branches: the mountains Kushanay and Kuluktau in the north and the Temirlik in the south. The Tuyuk-Temirlik ore area is located in the intermountain trough, in the northern slope of the Temirlik, where watershed extends latitudinally 2.5 km to the south of the deposit at 2,800-2,860 m. The Temirlik River flows in a north-western direction 5km to the north of Tuyuk deposit at 1,550- 1,650 m. Generally, the deposit area is an intermountain basin, open to the northwest and closed from the other sides, because of which it has its name ("Tuyuk" - a dead end, a closed basin). Drainage system in the area is well developed and has a typical river feathery appearance. The Ili River, which flows into the Balkhash Lake, flows 90 km to the north of the mine. The right tributary of the Charyn River is formed by the confluence of the Karkar and Kegen rivers 30 km to the south- west of the deposit, doubling the Temirlik and Kushanay Mountain. Its average annual capacity is 40 m3/s, the minimum one is 27 m3/s. The Kegen River runs 13 km to the south of the deposit, at the foot of the Temirlik Mountain. Its average capacity is 28 m3/s. the minimum one is 18 m3/s. (January, February). Scope of works performed on Tuyuk-Temirlik ore area for the years 2013 -2016: Drilling of the exploratory wells -19,709 lm .; Drilling of coring wells – 4,552 lm; Profile electromagnetics IP-DES – 151.47 lkm; Trenching (mining works) – 12,216.7 m3; Excavation of sampling pits – 50 lm; Prospecting traverse - 882.5 lkm; ICP-AES analysis of geological samples to 35 el.– 10,762; ICP-AES analysis of quantitative additional cost for 4 el. - 822; Chem.analysis – 1,500; Semiquantitative spectral analysis for 24 el – 4,489. 2. Production of barite-polymetallic ores and silver at the Tuyuk deposit in Almaty region, Kazakhstan Location and infrastructure The Tuyuk deposit is located in the central part of the Tuyuk-Temirlik contract area, in the extreme southeastern part of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan on the territory of Raiymbek district, near its border with the Uyghur region. Almaty is located 200 km to the west of the deposit, Taldykorgan is 230 km north-northwest of the deposit, Karakol – Kyrgyz Republic – is 105 km to the southwest. The state border with China is 85 km to the east of the field, and the border with the Republic of Kyrgyzstan is 40 km to the south-west of it (all distances are indicated given the straight line). Absolute marks are 2,170-2,375 m above the sea level. The deposit is located in the western part of the Tien Shan mountain system, on the western edge of the Ketmen ridge, in the south-eastern part of the basin of the Ili River – the Balkhash Lake. The district has favorable geographical and economic conditions: relatively mild climate, significant hydroelectric resources, proximity to highways. A negative factor is the remoteness of the area from the railways. The main thoroughfare of the district is the Almaty - Kegen - Narynkol highway, which extends 15 km to the west of the Tuyuk field. Agriculture in the area is intensively developing in recent years due to the development of wild and fallow lands. The area has good conditions for agriculture, including irrigated one. A special place takes the livestock, mainly sheep breeding. Local industry in the field area is low-developed. Mining industry is not extensively developed, although geological exploration revealed a number of interesting and important projects. Fig. 2. Overview map of the Tuyuk deposit 3. Well No. 3 (the eastern part has a 27-meter- wide intercept in the interval of 261-288 m, with an average lead content up to 8.5%, zinc 2% and copper 0.2%. TUK-007-16 well has a lead-zinc interval at a depth of 297-334 m, a 37 m thickness by intersection with an average lead content of 1.8% and zinc 2% . There is a copper zone in the interval of 396-424 m, with a thickness by intersection of 28 m and an average copper content of 1.03%. TUK- 009-16 well has thickness by intersection up to 30 m (int. 382-413 m) with lead content up to 1.6%, zinc 1.9% and copper 0.2%. Dip and trend of this mineralization is not outlined. The eastern flank of Tuyuk field, according to the results of geophysical explorations of 2013- 2014 has potentially perspective areas of complex barite-polymetallic ores. Undiscovered copper resources within the eastern block can correspond to an average deposit with copper content of about 0.75%. Temirlik ore field According to the results of geological explorations of 2013-2015, as well as the information of predecessors, reserves at Temirlik copper deposit were assessed within Tuyuk-Temirlik ore region. Deposit reserves are estimated in the author's version, up to an average depth of 150 m, category C2 in the most well-studied Central Block of the deposit. Mineralization in the steeply dipping blocks (Eastern, Western, Far Western) was studied on dip and trend by 3-4 wells from the surface by rare ditches. Ore zones are under-explored.
