The Lady Indians Basketball team had a record setting season 29-4 with seven members earning a 4.0 GPA, The Softball team set several records and was very successful in the classroom as well, The Men’s Basketball Head Coach was named Co-Coach of the year, and they won the conference title. The Baseball team was successful on and off the court with their winning season and completing community service projects. The golf team qualified for Nationals in Florida. Over 50 MCC Athletes earned a spot on their respective Academic All-Region or All American or All-Conference teams!!! Please join me in applauding all of our outstanding student athletes, as well as the coaches, mentors, parents and adopted athlete parents who have guided and supported them in their athletic and academic pursuits. Olsen enters his sixteenth year overall as a junior college head coach. Olsen was the fi rst head coach in MCC history in 2002, then had a fi ve-year stint at Independence Community College in Independence, KS before returning in the summer of 2007 to take over the Indians program again. Coach Olsen, a McCook native, graduated from McCook high school in 1995. Following graduation he played two years of junior college baseball in Kansas. After graduating with his A.A. from Colby, Olsen transferred to Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, where he completed his baseball eligibility and graduated in the fall of 1999 with a B.S. in Kinesiology. Olsen stayed on in the spring of 2000 as an assistant coach at Wheaton, then in 2000-2001 Coach Olsen went back to Colby and spent one year as an assistant there. Olsen also spent six seasons as the head coach in the McCook American Legion Jon Olsen Baseball program in the summers from 1997 to 2002. Olsen completed his Master’s Head Coach degree in Health, PE and Recreation from Emporia State University. Coach Olsen was hired in the spring of 2001 to start the baseball program at McCook Community College. After one season as the Indians head coach, Olsen was hired to Coaching Resume: take over the head coaching position at Independence Community College. Olsen built 2007-Present - Head Coach - the Pirates into a program that consistently competed for a top spot in the highly McCook Community College competitive Jayhawk East. In his fi rst season as Pirates head coach, Olsen lead the - McCook, NE Pirates to their fi rst winning season in school history and was named the 2003 Jayhawk East coach of the year. Olsen’s fi nal two recruiting classes in Kansas produced three 2003-2007 - Head Coach - Independence Community College Major League Baseball draft picks. In 2007 Josh Beal was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds, - Independence, KS in 2008 Jon Nagel by the Chicago Cubs, and in 2009 Justin Beal by the Philadelphia Phillies. 2002-2003 - Head Coach - In July of 2007, Coach Olsen happily accepted the head coaching position at McCook McCook Community College - McCook, NE Community College. In 2010 Olsen guided the Indians to their best season in school history, which included setting the school record for wins, and the Indians fi rst trip to 2001-2002 - Assistant Coach - the Region playoff under the new format. Olsen is excited for his tenth year at MCC and Colby Community College hopes the Indians can make a push towards McCook’s fi rst Region IX title. ¡ e Indians - Colby, KS look to improve on their 3rd place region fi nish in 2016, the highest in school history, and 2000-2001 - Assistant Coach - fi nished the season with an extra inning loss in the region semi-fi nal and a game away Wheaton College from a NJCAA Western District Region Tournament appearance for the fi rst time in school - Wheaton, IL history. Olsen also is a full-time Health and PE instructor and athletic director at MCC. Olsen and his wife Nicole reside in McCook. Patrick Morey has entered his 3rd season as an assistant coach for McCook Community College in 2016- 17. Coach Morey handles the pitching staff and infi elders, while still helping with the hitters, along with coordinating MCC’s recruiting eff orts. During his fi rst year as MCC’s hitting coach, the Indians posted the top 3 single season batting averages in school history; and in his second year Coach Morey oversaw the MCC pitching staff strike out 407 batters to set a new high mark in school history, as well as setting the top 2 spots on the individual pitching strikeout list (Adams 97; Christiansen 83) Patrick came to McCook from Mount Michael Benedictine High School in Elkhorn, NE, where he served as Co-Head Coach. While at Mount Michael, Coach Morey helped lead the Knights to 2 State Tournaments, including a 2013 Runner-up fi nish. After a highly decorated playing career at Hastings College, Coach Morey joined the Broncos coaching staff as the Pitching Coach. During his time with HC, Patrick helped lead the Broncos to the 2011 GPAC Championship, as well as having 4 pitchers selected with All-GPAC Patrick Morey honors over his 2 years. Assistant Baseball Coach Sports Information During his playing career, Coach Morey was honored with 2 Gold Glove selections as well as the 2008 Coordinator All-GPAC Relief Pitcher. Morey fi nished his career in the top ten all time in multiple hitting and pitching categories and is the all time leader in Sacrifi ce Fly’s.
