The day has finallyarrived. Cow Chip Day '92 is here at last! Warner,Odahoma will bethe site forthe Sixth Annual Cow Chip Day celebration, which servesas an opJX>rtunityfor the community and townspeople to show off what they have to offer to botharea residents and to visitors to the town of 1,300people. This year's theme is "Year of the Indian", which goes along with the Tourism Department's theme, which promotes the many Native Americansthat live in Oklahoma as well as their rich history and traditions. The WarnerChamber of Commerce, as well as many other civic and service organizations, have spent many hours in preparation. The day begins with the parade, which will feature floats, bands, the Warner High School Football Queen. Misty Brassfield, and her court,as well as many other vehicles and horseback riders. Several hith school, college and local community organizations will have booths set up to .provide entertainment and food forthose attending. Entertaining the crowd will be Holly and Terry Jones, who will be performing Upswing Country& WesternMusic as well as the annual Cow Chip Day Beauty Pageant, sponsored by the WarnerFuture Homemakers of America. The FHA has extended their deadline for the pageant until Wednesday, September 16. It is open to local residents up to twenty years of age. Many games will be available to children of all ages (including some adults), including a dunk tank, fishing booth, and many other exciting opportunities. The local4-H chapters will be involved, as they will have a petting zooand a pet show. Entries for the pet show are available at Cross Telephone and at Vian State Bank. Providing 'security"for the crowd will be the Indian Territory Marshals. No problemswill occur as long as they are around. Plenty of good foodwill be available to munch on, including barbeque, hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, cakes, pies, and plenty of cold pop. Other contests include the annual volleyball tournament, sponsored by the Warner High SchoolStudent Council, a softball tournament, as well as the annual photography contest. T-shirts comrnemoratin·gthe 6th Annual Cow Chip Day will be on sale for only $7 .50 each and the WarnerKiwanis Club is sponsoring the 1st annual Cow Chip Day Arts & Crafts Festival. Connors State College is starting a new tradition at the event with the 1st Annual Chili Cookoff,with the winner to represent Connors State College at the chili cookoffin Muskogee. And, finally,the World Famous Cow Chip Day Cow Drop, where the owner of the winnin,g ticket, as well as the second and third place winners, will receive money. Tickets will be on sale on the day of the cow drop.
