Department of Agriculture Dillon Ranger District 680 Blue River Parkway Silverthorne, CO 80498 (970) 468-5400 WILLIAMS PEAK ROAD - FDR 200 Difficulty: MODERATE TO MORE DIFFICULT Trail Use: Low (heavy during hunting season) Length: 11.4 miles one-way Elevation: Starts at 7,787 feet and ends at 11,204 feet (highest point 11,231 feet) Elevation Gain: +4,042 feet - 625 feet = +3,417 feet Open In Summer To: HIKING, HORSE, MTN. BIKING, 4X4, ATV, MOTORCYCLE Open In Winter To: X-C SKIING, SNOWSHOEING Access: From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne / Dillon, and travel north on HWY 9. Once you have traveled 27 miles (1 mile past the Green Mountain Reservoir), turn right onto Williams Peak Road, County Road 200. The Williams Peak Road begins here. Trail Highlights: The road takes the traveler through sage brush at the lower elevations. Approximately 2.6 miles from the beginning of the route you will come to Haystack Mountain. Haystack Mountain offers spectacular views of the Gore Range, the Lower Blue Valley and Green Mountain Reservoir. Travel further on the road and you will find aspen groves mixed with stands of lodgepole pine at the higher elevations. Approximately 3.2 miles past Haystack Mountain the road begins to level out as it follows the ridge- line toward Williams Peak, elevation 11,617 feet. Important Information: STAY ON DESIGNATED ROADS TO PREVENT RESOURCE DAMAGE. Williams Peak Road receives very heavy use during hunting season. You WILL encounter ATVs and 4WD vehicles of all types, so be alert. Use extreme caution in fall or spring. This road becomes slick and very hazardous when the road surface becomes wet due to snow or rain. This road travels through both the Dillon Ranger District of the White River National Forest and the Sulphur Ranger District of the Arapaho National Forest.
