Tolland County 4-H Fair The 77th Annual Tolland County 4-H Fair Proudly Dedicates the 2019 Fair Premium Book to: Cheryl Saegaert On behalf of Tolland County 4-H, fairboard dedicates the 77th annual Tolland County 4-H fair book to Cheryl Saegaert. On February 12, 2019, Tolland County 4-H lost one of their biggest advocates. Cheryl started with 4-H in Tolland County about 35 years ago, or as she would say, “too long ago.” Cheryl served for many years not only as a 4-H club leader for the ‘Goats, etc.’ club, but also as a fairboard advisor. Her 4-H experience began with her two biological children, however she considered all of her 4-Hers her own. Her home was always open to any and all 4-Hers and animals. She was a lover of all animals. While her club focus was on dairy goats, her personal farm was fairly diverse, including dogs, chickens, ducks, llamas, sheep, rabbits, domestic birds, and of course, dairy goats. Cheryl was the type of individual that would go above and beyond for anyone who may, or may not, have asked. She was the proudest of her 4-H kids and would help them to accomplish anything that they wanted to. Her teaching went far beyond 4-H and animals, extending to life, independence and teamwork along with acceptance and patience. But the most important thing she taught was responsibility. Responsibility for your own actions, for your animals, and for your 4-H club. Cheryl pushed her kids to set goals, challenge themselves in all aspects of their life, and step out of their comfort zone. She pushed them to be the best that they could be. While Cheryl was known for her open, sometimes blunt, honesty, her intentions were always in the best interest of those around her. She was the type of person who loved and loved hard, and she will be greatly missed. Thank you, Cheryl, for all that you’ve done for Tolland County 4-H. 1 Tolland County 4-H Fair 2019 President’s Message Once I was faced with the question, “In one word, what does 4-H mean to you?” to which I answered, “everything.” One of the most amazing things about 4-H is not only its ability to reach the lives of so many people and touch each one in a different way, but it’s ability to bring together people that share the same love and passion for 4-H and everything it stands for. These experiences have become a special part of all of us, whether we recognize it or not, and will benefit and influence our lives in ways that we can only imagine. The ability of 4-H to so profoundly impact the lives of so many people is true to its nature of “making the best better,” and for that I will always be thankful. 4-H, the opportunities it provides, and the incredible people that are a part of it always have, and always will, mean everything to me. To the 2018-2019 Tolland County 4-H Fairboard: it has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve as your president in my last year of 4-H. Your hard work and enthusiasm for 4-H is so inspiring, and I hope that you all will continue to learn and grow with each other. I’d like to extend a thank you to everyone I have had the pleasure of working with not only this year, but in the entirety of my time in 4-H; it truly is because of you that I am who I am. Thank you all for everything, and on behalf of the Tolland County 4-H Fairboard, we hope you enjoy the fair!
