This is a special occasion for all of us including our member societies, social psychiatrists and mental health professionals all over the world to meet together and engage in scientific deliberations. The theme of the Congress, “Social determinants of mental health and access to care” is contemporary and relevant. It reflects our concern for mental health in this age of globalization, commercialization and the merging of boundaries between nations. Personally, I have prepared a very up to date topic materialized in a Master Class on Preventing Youth Suicide in Europe to which I invited everyone to attend. We are expecting a large participation from the Romanian strong community and we welcome each and every of you to get a taste of what our lovely country has to offer. Prof. Doina Cozman Co-Chair Organizing Committee, WASP Congress 2019 4 23rd WORLD CONGRESS OF SOCIAL PSYCHIATRY / 25-28 October 2019 / Bucharest About WASP World Association of Social Psychiatry (WASP) Prof Roy Abraham Kallivayalil, President World Association of Social Psychiatry (WASP)was founded in 1964 by Joshua Bierer and other leading social psychiatrists of that time. The purpose of the WASP is as follows, and as is defined in its Statutes: 1. To study the nature of man and his cultures and the prevention and treatment of his vicissitudes and behavioral disorders. 2. To promote national and international collaboration among professionals and societies in fields related to Social Psychiatry. 3. To make the knowledge and practice of Social Psychiatry available to other sciences and to the public, and 4. To advance the whole health and wellbeing of humankind. Initially the World Congresses were named International Congress of Social Psychiatry. From the 6th Congress, it was named World Congress of Social Psychiatry. The 23rd Congress is being held in Bucharest, Romania Oct 25-28, 2019. The 24th Congress will be held in 2022. WASP is comprised of Member Societies from all parts and regions of the world.
