Roller Skating/Blading in P.E

Roller Skating/Blading in P.E

Roller Skating/Blading in P.E. May 15th – 26th, 2017 SAFETY: AGAIN THIS YEAR, HELMETS ARE REQUIRED. Even though safety is carefully taught, we are required by the School District’s insurance carrier that helmets be used. In addition, wrist guards are required and provided. If you have your own, feel free to bring them during your skating week. BEST OPTION: Bring your own helmet (please mark your name in/on it). Make sure that it is fitted properly: Doesn’t slide back exposing the forehead. GREAT OPTION: Get a low-cost, easy to adjust helmet (skateboard/bicycle style that extends down to the back of the head) at any of the following contacts: Wearer must be present to pick it up. 1. Mary Bridge Children’s Health Center (Silverdale Harrison) 360-662-1198 2. Naval Hospital Bremerton 360-475-4541 3. Bremerton Fire Department 360-478-5380 LAST OPTION: (But a little time-consuming to manage). The School District has a set of helmets like the ones listed above. The chin strap adjusts easily, but to prevent the possible spread of head lice, students will have to wear disposable caps like food service workers (again provided by the School District). SKATES PROVIDED: School District roller skates are provided. Please make sure your child knows their shoe size and is wearing socks or has a pair with them in case they are wearing sandals. IF YOU WANT TO BRING YOUR OWN SKATES/BLADES: Are they in good working condition? (Buckles work? Laces not broken?) Please mark them with the child’s name in permanent marker. If they are dark or black, use a piece of masking tape on the back of each skate. I STRONGLY SUGGEST either taking them home each day after we skate, or at least asking the classroom teacher if they may be left IN a corner of the room at the end of the day. This helps with hallway safety and skate security. IF YOU WANT TO DONATE ROLLERBLADES THAT DON’T FIT ANYMORE: If they are in decent condition, I’d love to have more. The District provides skates, but sometimes beginners have more success if they start with rollerblades. If you’re not sure if they are good enough, send them in anyway. I can always choose to throw them away. IF YOU’D LIKE TO HELP!!!!! WE CAN USE IT!!!!! The hardest part of teaching K, 1st, 2nd and maybe even 3rd grade students is getting the proper size of skates on, ties, and used in just a 30 minute period. IF ANY PARENT WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER DURING ANY OF THEIR CHILD’S P.E. PERIODS DURING THESE TWO WEEKS, PLEASE CONTACT ME BY NOTE, VOICE MAIL (662-8711) OR EMAIL ([email protected]). It’s FREE entertainment (lotion for dry hands from tying skates, not provided)! .
