Garages and sheds are full of expensive tools and equipment that can easily be stolen, or used to break into the house and many are unprotected and lack even basic security, making them a prime target for burglars. Consider a wheel clamp for your caravan and mark property with your house number and postcode and make a note of serial numbers. You can find much more advice on home security on the Hampshire Constabulary website – Protecting your home and belongings Bonfire night Fireworks can cause serious damage or injury if not used correctly, so always follow the instructions. Keep them away from property, trees, fences, bushes or vehicles and always stand a safe distance away when setting them off. An organised display is the best way to enjoy fireworks safely but if you do decide to have your own display please remember that you must be over 18 to buy fireworks; letting off a firework in a public place is an offence; you are breaking the law if you let off fireworks between 11pm-7am (extended to midnight on bonfire night); and make sure fireworks conform to British Standards BS7114, EN14035 or EN 15947. Remember not to forget your pets. Keep them safe indoors and make sure they have a comfortable, quiet space to relax in. It offers free, non-judgmental and confidential help to victims of crime, witnesses, their family, friends and anyone else affected. It is not a government agency or part of the police and victims do not need to report a crime to the police to get help and the charity can be contacted any time after the crime has happened, years later if necessary.
