On the 4th and 5th of August the Albert Cohen Foundation will dedicate a series of cultural events to the former Empress Elizabeth of Austria as part of the cycle of cultural events "Corfu remembers ...". These cultural events will focus particularly on the time when she lived on the island of Corfu. This two-day homage entitled "Sissi, the Corfu Years" will take place on Sunday, the 4th of August at 8.30 pm at Achilleion Palace in Gastouri and on Monday, the 5th of August, also at 8.30 pm, at the Museum of Asian Art (Palace of St. Michael and St. George). Newsletter August 2019 On the 4th of August there will be a music and dance program and a short theater event. On the 5th of August the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the Empress of Austria will take place at the Museum of Asian Art. The exhibition will present various personal and other items from the life of Elizabeth and her time in Corfu. This exhibition is co-organized by the museum's director, Mrs. Despina Zerniotis, and her assistant, Mr. Stamatis Hondroyannis, as well as by Mrs. Olivia Lichtsceidl, curator of the "Sissi Museum" in Vienna, from which most of the empress's personal belongings originate, in cooperation with "Albert Cohen Corfu" Association. Following this, there will be a screening of a documentary on the life of Empress Elizabeth, which was filmed in November 2018 in Corfu by the Austrian company "Metafilm" and is now shown with the kind support of ORF. Newsletter August 2019 Patmos, Concerts of Christos Marantos – Gabriele Schuchter, 8th, 10th & 12th of August The Viennese singer and actress Gabriele Schuchter will perform three concerts together with the Greek pianist Christos Marantos in mid-August on the island of Patmos. The concerts will take place on the 8th and 10th of August at 9:00 pm at the Cultural Center of the Cultural Association of the Municipality of Patmos (PATMION) in Skala and on the 12th of August at 9:00 pm at WALTERS HOUSE (Loukakia – Sapsila) on an open- air stage. This is a project of the non-profit Austrian cultural association WORTUNDSPIELE in cooperation with the Cultural Center PATMION of the Municipality of Patmos and is supported by the AUSTRIAN HONORARY CONSULATE DODEKANES as well as the private cultural association TEXNH ART and PATMOS RADIO 91. The aim of the master classes is to offer students and graduates of violin, viola and cello the opportunity to expand their repertoire, improve their technical and musical knowledge and gain experience in ensemble playing. Newsletter August 2019 The concerts will take place in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine as well as the Embassy of Mexico. Volos & Skiathos: Concert of Cristina Basili – Djordje Davidovic, 25th, 26th and 27th of August Cristina Basili (cello) and Djordje Davidovic (accordion) will perform on the 25th of August at 9:00 pm in Volos in the garden of Lykeion Ellinidon in collaboration with the Association of Friends of the Athanasakio Archaeological Museum of Volos. In Skiathos they will perform twice, namely on the 26th of August at 7:00 pm departure from the port of Skiathos for a "Floating Concert" and on the 27th of August at 8:00 pm a concert at Hotel Atrium. Papadopoulou created a waterfall made of wool in the foyer of the Town Hall of Thessaloniki. The completion and presentation of the work took place at 8:00 pm. The artistic activity started at 11:00 am and was open to the public. The event took place under the auspices of the City of Thessaloniki and the Austrian Honorary Consulate. Eisenstadt, Pilgrimage of the German-speaking Catholic Community of Athens, 3rd of July On the 3rd of July, 2019 a meeting with H.E. the Bishop of Eisenstadt, Dr. Aegidius J. Within the context of the 2019 Austrian-Greek Music Summer the „Danubia Symphonic Winds“ wind ensemble consisting of 41 young musicians gave two concerts in Kalamata: on the 3rd of July at Megaro Chorou a children's concert under the title "Around the World in 80 Days" featuring all wind instruments and conducted by conductor Andreas Simbeni and on the 5th of July at Megaro Chorou a concert of the Symphonic Wind Orchestra under the baton of conductor Andreas Simbeni and Newsletter August 2019 featuring Cristina Basili (violoncello) within the context of International Music Days Kalamata. The project was supported by the Austrian Embassy and was co-financed by the Federal State of Lower Austria.
