English Chess Federation Official Chess Yearbook 2013 FOREWORD Dear chess colleagues, I am honoured to have been recently elected to the post of ECF President and promise to work hard for the benefit of chess in this country. The past year has been somewhat frenetic in more ways than one, ending with the resignation of our previous president. The new membership scheme has been introduced. Naturally there have been the usual initial teething problems but these are being resolved and we wait with bated breath to see how successful it is. We currently have a Board that still has a couple of vacancies and several new members as a result of the recent elections. However, the current personnel are full of ideas for the future. Whether all the schemes are workable only time will tell, but please rest assured that we are all working with the best intentions for the future well-being of the ECF - in some cases over- working! This year we are organising the 100th British Championships at Torquay and also working towards trying to achieve Charitable Status for the ECF.These two events in themselves will keep several members of the Board fully occupied, more than fully occupied for those mem- bers who also need time to earn a living as well. It saddens me to see some pockets of the country who think they can exist without the ECF and are trying to destroy it when there are so many people who are trying their best to make it work. However, more volunteers are still needed. To paraphrase that well known saying,“Ask not what the ECF can do for you, ask what you can do for the ECF”. Because of the forthcoming workload, plus the additional work generated by the Membership scheme, we are very reliant on the work carried out in the office and I would like to thank the staff who work there for their efforts in keeping the ECF running on a daily basis. And also a thank you to all the volunteers without whom there would be no ECF. - Roger Edwards, President of the English Chess Federation 1 CONTENTS Foreword 1 ECF Office, Board & Officials 2 - 6 Chief Executive’s & Directors’ Reports 7 - 23 FIDE Honours List 24 - 25 Awards: President’s Award, Club, Player & Book of the Year 27 - 33 Chess Service Providers: Arbiters, Accredited Coaches, Players & Journalists 34 - 42 ECF Titled Players 43 BCF/ECF Congresses & Champions 44 - 59 ECF Master Points System 67 Results and Tournaments 68 - 89 Junior Reports & Events 100 - 120 Junior Club Directory 121 - 126 Correspondence Chess 126 - 129 Chess Problems 130 - 131 Directory 132 ...
