Each Kudumbashree member has a vote. Direct elections for the NG coordinators are held every three years. These people, in turn, elect the coordinators of the ADS who elect the members of the CDS. • There is reservation for Dalit and Adivasi women. • At the district and State levels, employees/officers of the government are appointed on deputation to help the Kudumbashree groups. 5 Telegram : target30upsc | YouTube : TargetUPSC PRI WOMEN ChhaviRajawat was the Sarpanch of her village Soda, 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Jaipur. But a recent finding shows a light on their water harvesting method. Normally rulers choose a place close to a river as the capital. But Hoysala rulers built a canal to bring water for their capital. With some modifications, existing canal can be made use of and there will no need of a new canal. India should make use of old canals, restore them and should be declared as heritage sites DISASTER MANAGEMENT The United Nations office for Disaster Risk Deduction (UNISDR) and other organisations have hailed government and volunteer efforts that have ensured the levels of destruction have been kept to a minimum. According to official estimates, 64 people lost their lives due to the devastating cyclone Fani. But considering the power of the cyclone, it is remarkable that more lives have not been lost. 6 Telegram : target30upsc | YouTube : TargetUPSC To put the death toll in perspective, the 1999 Odisha cyclone (which had 155mph winds) killed 9,658 people and caused US$2.5 billion in damages in the state. It was this super cyclone in 1999 that led the state to become better prepared for future cyclones. URBANIZATION The effects of unbridled urbanization are inescapable in India’s capital city. Smog blankets landmarks like India Gate in winter, delaying flights at the airport due to poor visibility. Traffic jams are part of the daily routine and slums abut New Delhi’s luxury hotels and private mansions, testifying to a growing wealth divide and chronic housing shortage. And every day, the problem gets bigger. More than 27 million people live in and around Delhi with about 700,000 more joining them each year, according to research firm Demographia. The United Nations forecasts that by 2028 the population could outstrip Tokyo’s to make Delhi the world’s biggest megacity. Town Planning and Structures: The Harappan culture was distinguished by its system of town planning. Both Harappa and Mohenjo-daro had a citadel or acropolis, and this was possibly occupied by members of the ruling class. Below the citadel in each city lay a lower town with brick houses, that were inhabited by the common people. The remarkable thing about the arrangement of the houses in the cities is that they followed a grid system, with roads cutting across one another virtually at right angles. Mohenjo-daro scored over Harappa in terms of structures. The monuments of the cities symbolized the ability of the ruling class to mobilize labour and collect taxes; the huge brick constructions were a means of impressing upon the common people the prestige and influence of their rulers. 7 Telegram : target30upsc | YouTube : TargetUPSC Pressure group GS2 Mahatma Gandhi led Ahmedabad Mill workers Satyagraha 1918 for plague bonus Pressure Groups in India ▪ Business Groups – Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), Federation of All India Foodgrain Dealers Association (FAIFDA), etc ▪ Trade Unions – All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Hind MazdoorSabha (HMS), BharatiyaMazdoorSangh (BMS) ▪ Professional Groups – Indian Medical Association (IMA), Bar Council of India (BCI), All India Federation of University and College Teachers (AIFUCT) ▪ Agrarian Groups- All India KisanSabha, BharatiyaKisan Union, etc ▪ Student’s Organisations- AkhilaBhartiyaVidyarthiParishad (ABVP),
