The Purail-Inguri Coal Block prima-facie has been found to have good potential for coal resources as established by regional exploration undertaken by GSI & MECL. The block area has to be proved in totality including area covered by forest to have a viable project. Moreover, for the energy security of the country and long term planning, all the coal resources available in the country need to be brought to the 'Proved' category through detailed exploration. IX Ujheni(W) - Gondbahera Block: Singrauli Coalfield GEOLOGICAL REPORT ON REGIONAL EXPLORATION FOR COAL MAKRI-BARKA BLOCK, ~IAIN BASIN SINGRAULI COALFIELD, DIST. - SIDHI, J\'I.P. SALIENT FEATURES 1. Name of the Block Makri-Barka 2. Area of the Block 125 Sq.km. 3. Location of the Block i) Located in the northern part of Main Basin of Singrauli Coalfield. Administratively, it is located in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh .. ii)Included in Survey of India Toposheet No. 63 Ll4 & 63 Ll8 (R.F. 1:50,000). iii) Co-ordinates: Latitudes (N): 24°08'25" to 24° 12'50" Longitudes (E) : 82°08'00" to 82° 20'00" 4. Objective i) To delineate the main stratigraphic horizons of the Gondwana Formation to evaluate the setting of exploration. , ii) To delineate the regional lineaments, folds, faults and incrop of coal seam with a view to identify the structurally homogeneous block to decide the target areas for detailed exploration. iii) To obtain the sub-surface data on the behaviour of different stratigraphic horizons and major coal seams to establish their correlation in order to evaluate the poten§ality both qualitatively and quantitatively. (i ) , ! ~ i iii) Basic Intrusives: The Barakar Coal Measures are :l.ffected by Igneous intrusives in the form of sills and dykes which have been encountered in I BH Nos. MSMB-5, 7, 8, 9,12,16 to 21, 24 to 29, 31, 32. 34, 36, 37 & ~O g• to 43 at different seam intersections. The intrusives are mainly r~ ~ represented by dolerite. ~ iv) Geological Structure: The general strike of the beds is >4"E-SW to east- west with southerly dip varying from IS' - 4.5° .. v) Fault : The block is traversed by fourteen faults with· different magnitudes. The fault FI-F1 running nearly E-W along northern block boundary forms the boundary between Metamorphics and Gondwanas. The throw of this fault is unknown. The details of fault intersections"? ith their throw and dispositions are exhibited in Table ~o. 4.03 (main text). vi) Quality : a) RANIGANJ SEAl\1S - These contain high moisture non-coking r:.-pe coal ranging in grade mainly between E to G However, seam R-IV appears to-be little better in quality and grades to D category.
