(Continued on Page 4) Caramel apples were invented in the 1950’s by a man name Dan Walk- er. He was working at a candy factory called Kraft Foods Company. Back then caramel candies were a standard for Halloween, so putting the two together -- an apple and caramel candies -- the first original caramel apple was invented. But a decade later the first caramel apple machine was invented by Vito Raimondi with the help of his uncle Wil- liam in Chicago, Illinois where they continue to own and operate one of the largest companies that produce caramel apples today. Tis the season for caramel apples and this flavor is such a vintage one [ [ for this time of year. (Check out the recipe on page 7) NUMS Cross County is Starting Strong Written by Kayla K. The NUMS Cross Country team has had four meets already and with great results. The athletes on the teams include the following: Libby A., Katie C., Summer S., Sydney P., Kayla K., Kamryn R., Brennan G., Zak K., Gabe B., Lance G., Derek B., Aiden G., and Joel K. At their meets, the two teams, both the girls and the boys have been very successful. At North- mor, on August 18, multiple runners from both teams placed in the top ten. When they were at Wynford, on September 2, multiple runners placed in the top 20 and received medals. At their home meet, on September 9, the boys’ team had an individual winner and many runners from both teams in the top places. On September 13, at Marysville, both teams placed second overall and had many runners in the top places.
