BARRINGTON PHELOUNG Born in Sydney Australia, Barrington Pheloung first became involved in music at the age of six when he was given his first guitar. Since then his chosen career has extended into all areas of the music industry. Barrington's work in theatre is renowned. He has written scores for several West End plays including Made in Bangkok by Anthony Minghella, After the Fall by Arthur Miller and recently The Graduate by Terry Johnson. He has written over 52 commissioned scores for ballet and dance companies in Britain and Europe, conducting and recording several of them including the popular works Run Like Thunder and Rite Elektrik both choreographed by Tom Jobe. He has recently completed the score for the live show Wheel of Life which is performed by the kung-fu Shaolin Monks from China, and directed by Micha Bergese. He began his work in television in 1985 composing his first television series, the thirteen part Boon. Since then Barrington's work has been enjoyed on all of the Inspector Morse episodes with which he reached No. 4 in the UK album chart in 1991 and received a BAFTA nomination for Best Television Music in 1992. His other television work includes Portrait of a Marriage, Stanley and the Woman, Good-bye Cruel World, Blood & Peaches, Mickey Love, Cinderpath, Brown Bears Wedding and the sequel White Bear’s Secret, Days of Majesty, The Legends of Treasure Island, Trip Trap, The Gift, Neville’s Island, Mosley, The Politican’s Wife, Dalziel and Pascoe, Seeing Red and Cor Blimey amongst many others. A busy and prolific composer, Barrington has written numerous film scores including Nostradamus for which he was nominated for Best Original Music category in the Ivor Novello Awards in 1995, Truly, Madly, Deeply, Saint Ex, Shopping, The Mangler, Hilary and Jackie for which he received a BAFTA nomination in 1999, and newly released Shopgirl, starring Steve Martin, Clare Danes and Jason Schwartzman. He has also collaborated with Revolution Software to write the music for the interactive computer games Broken Sword I, Broken Sword II and In Cold Blood. A member of the Lords Taverners, Barrington is a keen practitioner and spectator of cricket with a particular passion for the Australian team. .
