Fáilte roimh gach éinne. Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – 30th June THE ROAD TO ……. Someone once said that for the sailor who doesn’t know where he is going, no wind is helpful. It makes sense really. It’s only when there’s a destination or purpose in mind that the wind behind your back is of any real use. The same can be said of the road. If we don’t know where we’re going, it could be said that “no road is helpful”. I once heard of a young man who, finding himself in a strange place, asked a Garda where the road would take him and the reply, though not particularly helpful, was on the button “It will take you anywhere in the world you want to go”!! I think my friend would have been happy to know the next town but, in theory, the Garda was right. Where my friend stood was, in truth, the road to anywhere in the world as long as he knew where he wanted to go. Jesus is aware of his destination in this weekend’s Gospel passage. He is headed for Jerusalem and all that awaits his arrival. It’s not an easy road to travel but he is determined to travel it nonetheless. He is anxious to have travelling companions but only ones that are willing to go the extra mile, even if unsure where that mile will take them. We remember and offer companionship to those who may find themselves on an uncertain road at this time. We pray that they find, in the determination of Jesus, the strength and hope needed for the journey. Rtin Fetac Level 5 qualification in Health attend before.
