Business students from Ms. McCarty's class win Amazon gift card of $300.00 for winning the Boeing competition Haverford Business students represented us well at yesterday’s Junior Achievement Company Program Regional Competition! The JA Company Program was designed to bring high school students together to learn how to fill a need or solve a problem in their community by launching a business venture. All students involved have a hand in managing all aspects of finance, marketing, sales and management during this 13-week program. At the end of 13 weeks, the companies come together and compete for the chance to advance to Nationals. Yesterday’s competition was comprised of 4 elements – a team interview, stage presentation, booth presentation and individual interviews. We had 6 students representing Haverford – Nhi Nguyen representing her company Clayroma, as well as Alexis Lukaszewski, Reema Patel, Sara DiMarino, Orla Fay, and Jack Breslin representing their company Embark. Embark was a company created with the purpose of reminding you to “embrace today’s opportunities”. They started their company by selling reusable water bottles and logo shirts, all while spreading the message about their company through their #todayistheday moto! Clayroma was a company created to encourage a healthy and sustainable alternative to conventional products. They started their company by creating clay air fresheners that work by absorbing essential oils and creating an all-natural aroma. They included two scent options with the purchase of any reusable clay air freshener. The BLAST is our post-prom party, held overnight from 11:00 pm until 4:00 am the following morning. The BLAST was created to give our seniors and their dates a safe, fun, alcohol-free experience. The high school is decorated in accordance with our top-secret theme, and there are food and drinks, music, karaoke, interactive inflatables, and a casino. We end the night with a raffle for the kids who stay for the entire evening. Members of the community, parents, and teachers come together to make the night special for the students. Our funding comes from PTSA dues, grants, and fundraising events. Despite our best efforts, we are low on funds. The BLAST costs close to $20,000 to produce, and we need your help. Please consider making a donation to the BLAST. We are asking for a $10.00 contribution per HHS family to help defray the costs for this year’s BLAST and to help us ensure that the BLAST can continue for future graduating classes. Please make checks payable to HHS PTSA and mail to HHS PTSA, 200 Mill Road, Havertown, PA 19083. Checks or cash may also be dropped off in the box labeled PTSA in the Main Office. Please write “BLAST” on the outside of the envelope. You can also pay through our website, www.hhsptsa.org. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the BLAST, please include contact information (phone/email) along with your donation. To stay updated on the latest PTSA and BLAST news, please follow our Facebook page, Haverford High School PTSA/BLAST. Thank you in advance for your help with this. There are many devoted community members who work very hard to make this event the best it can be for our seniors. Your financial support will be greatly appreciated. Club Meetings Detentions: Afternoon detention will be held in Room 130 from now on. Morning detentions are held in the Main Office, beginning at 7 AM. Attendance - Any late note, early dismissal note, absence excuse note, and classroom attendance should be turned into the Attendance Office.
