ANKARA CITY TOUR Th e day commences with a tour of Ankara Castle. Dating back the Hittites, the castle overlooks the city from its perch, and you will visit its inner and outer wards. Th en, the next stop on your tour is the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. Th e mu- seum is located near the outer walls of the Castle and consists of the old Mahmut Paşa Bazaar and Kurşunlu Inn. Displaying the artifacts from all the cultures and civilizations of Anatolia, this stunning museum, with its unique collections, has been considered among the best museums in the world. Aft er visiting the museum where the artifacts from the Paleolithic Age to the Ottoman Period can be seen, the day continues with a tour of the Hacı Bayram Mosque. Th e tour breaks for lunch at Nizam Usta restaurant near the mosque. Aft er having lunch, you will visit the Victory Monument in Ulus, and then, move on to the first Parliament Building (the First Building of the Turkish Grand National Assembly) which is today used as the Museum of War of Independence. Aft er visiting this first parliament building, which has an important role in Turkish history as it was the place where the Re- public was declared, the National Anthem was approved, Ankara was established as the capital city of Turkey and Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was elected as the First President of the Republic, you will visit the second building of the Parliament (the Second Building of the Turkish Grand National Assembly) which now serves as a museum, Republic Museum. Th is building was constructed by architect Vedat Tek in 1923 and it served as the home of Turkish Parliament from 1924 to 1960 when the Republic prospered and Ataturk’s principles and reforms were implemented. Aft er visiting this architectural masterpiece which has a special and crucial pla- ce in Turkish history, you will move on to Anıttepe. Th e last stop on your tour is Anıtkabir in Rasattepe (Anıttepe) which is the Mausoleum of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who is the great leader of Turkish Independence War and the reforms, the founder and first president of Turkish Republic, and the Commander-in-chief.
