May 17, 2012 Author Jim Lynch discusses new novel: “Truth Like the Sun” Award winning local author Jim Lynch (The Highest Tide, Border Songs) will be at the Tumwater Timberland Library from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 24 to talk about his new novel “Truth Like the Sun.” Books will be available for purchase. The program takes place after the library closes. The book is a cat-and-mouse tale of urban intrigue in Seattle both in 1962, when Seattle hosted the World’s Fair that put the city on the map, and in 2001, after its transformation in the Microsoft gold rush. The story revolves around a dynamic mayoral candidate, famous for having masterminded the fair, and an ambitious investigative reporter determined to discover the secrets behind his rise to power. Interwoven are backroom deals, idealism and pragmatism, the best and worst ambitions, and all the aspirations that shape our communities and our lives. Jim Lynch is the author of two other novels set in Western Washington. His first novel, The Highest Tide (2005), won the Pacific Northwest Bookseller Award, was performed on stage in Seattle and became an international bestseller. His second novel, Border Songs (2009), was also adapted to the stage and won the Washington State Book Award as well as the Indie's Choice Honor Book Award. The film rights have been sold for The Highest Tide and TV rights for Border Songs. Lynch grew up in the Seattle area and graduated from the University of Washington. He worked as a reporter for newspapers in Alaska, Virginia and for columnist Jack Anderson in Washington, D.C. Returning to the Northwest, he wrote for the Spokane Spokesman-Review, the Portland Oregonian and the Seattle Times. His national honors include the H.L.
