Kenton, who is currently on tour with his 19-member group between musical engagements in Denver, Colo., and Vancouver, B.C., also will present a jazz clinic from 4-6 p.m. Saturday in the UT. The clinic is open to all interested persons without charge. Reserved seats for the concert are $2.50 for UM and high school students and $3.~0 for the general public. Tickets are available at the University Center Ticket Office. The UM Jazz Workshop, also a 19-member group, will present the opening segment of Saturday's concert. Boyd's group will feature its usual variety of jazz and jazz-rock music. Kenton and his group will play a variety of music, including nostalgic tunes from the Big Band Era--"Artistry in Rhythm," "Stella by Starlight" and "Malaguena"--to contemporary renditions, including music made popular by "Chicago" and "Blood, Sweat and Tears." Kenton, who is in his early 60s, has been a bandleader more than three decades. Although he claims Los Angeles as his home, Kenton doesn't have living quarters there or anyplace else, largely because he spends 11 months a year presenting road engagements. - more - ~ STAN KENTON, UM JAZZ WORKSHOP--page 2 Boyd said Saturday's clinic will include a brief introductory performance by Kenton's group, followed by clinic sessions on individual instruments. Both the Stan Kenton Orchestra and UM Jazz Workshop feature similar instrumentation, including trombones, trumpets, saxophones, jazz drums, conga drums, string bass and bass guitar. Saturday's visit to Missoula by Kenton and his group is sponsored by the Program Council of the Associated Students of UM, the UM Jazz Workshop and the Missoula Festival of the Arts. Boyd is coordinator of the clinic and concert. ## .
