The cultural diversity of this region is also reflected in its wide culinary heritage. Old Polish, Warmian, Mazurian and Kurpie cuisines as well as the culinary tradi- tions of Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia and Germany result in a rich palette of tastes, scents and gastronomic traditions that our guests will enjoy. Contemporary Warmia, Mazury and Powisle is an area of turbulent history. Its multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious character finds its reflection in rich and diversi- fied culinary tradition. Thus, when we talk about the culinary tradition of Warmia and Mazury, we refer to cuisines and traditions of all our cultures in creating the present-day image of our unique region. In keeping with the proverb: ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’, we focus on cuisine which should attract, tempt and delight. Because of the diversity of food products and dishes typical of any area, culinary heritage plays an important role in the promotion of regions. Moreover, the traditional setting of meals and festivals creates a unique atmosphere which makes people want to visit different parts of the world. The European Network of Culinary Heritage, which we joined as the first region in Poland, is our response to ‘fast food’ culture and widely available industrial food. What we propose is a regional product, ei- ther goods or services, which local inhabitants of a given region can readily iden- tify with, produced or provided in an non-industrial, environmentally-friendly way using the raw materials available in this region. I strongly recommend restaurants, gastronomic outlets and products marked with the special logo of the European Network of the Regional Culinary Heritage. You should look for them while staying in the region of Warmia, Mazury and Powisle. You will not be disappointed – I guarantee.
