I met Todd in 1997 when I joined the coaching staff of the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League. I immediately recognized that the young man had an amazing passion for the game of hockey and a bright future in the game. I worked with Todd for four seasons in Merritt before moving on to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL in 2001. The first thing I did when I moved to the Vipers was to hire Todd and bring him to Vernon. Todd is the consummate professional. He is always prepared and extremely professional with everything that he does involving his job. He is a tremendous broadcaster who has the ability to find the balance between calling the game accurately and adding the necessary excitement to the game. He is always prepared for every game with detailed game notes, statistics, and information to keep the fans informed and entertained during his broadcasts. He treats everyone that he comes across with the utmost respect, whether it is the coaching staffs, players, or fellow media. I have always believed that Todd is capable of broadcasting a game at the highest level of hockey. Todd is also an exceptional asset to any hockey organization in the area of Sales and Marketing. He is a hard worker with great ideas and the personality to get out in the community and sell the product. He understands the business of hockey from all aspects and is self confident enough to get out in the community and promote the team and the game itself. Any organization would benefit from having Todd representing their team in their community. In closing, I have worked in Junior Hockey for 15 seasons and I would hire Todd Orton to work with me again any day.
