COVID-19 Update March 28, 2020 As of March 28, 2020, a total of 1524 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported among Connecticut residents (Table 1). Cases have been reported in all 8 Connecticut counties. Two hundred and five patients were hospitalized, and 33 residents have died (20 in Fairfield County, 6 in New Haven County, 4 in Tolland County, 2 in Hartford County, and 1 in Middlesex County). Kelley State Public Health Laboratory has tested a total of 1,561 patients for COVID- 19; 238 (15%) patients tested positive. The graph below shows the number of patients tested by date specimens were received. Hospital and commercial laboratories also are offering testing for COVID-19 in Connecticut; in total, more than 10,200 tests have been reported to date. The Department of Public Health has two syndromic surveillance systems that track respiratory illness across the state. The hospital syndromic surveillance system receives near real-time information about emergency department (ED) visits from all 38 licensed, hospital EDs in Connecticut. ILI-Net receives the percentage of patient visits with influenza-like illness (ILI) from a network of outpatient healthcare providers. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, both syndromic surveillance systems suggest that more people may be seeking care for respiratory illness than usual at this time.
