Sri G.Nageswara Reddy Member Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering MESSAGE It gives me an immense pleasure to present the Annual Report for the academic year 2013-2014, which covers the period from 01st July, 2013 to 30th June, 2014. I personally feel that it is an eventful academic year for it witnessed significant administrative changes and academic developments. As it was the initial phase of my tenure, it was essential to identify the thrust areas and address them appropriately. I strongly felt that the university has the potential to go NAAC accreditation and necessary modalities have been worked out for the preparation of SSR (Self- Study Report). On the academic forefront, 2013-14 was an extremely gratifying year for the university hosted 33 seminars conferences/ workshops. The students, research scholars and faculty had the privilege of enriching their exposure and understanding of respective subjects. Under XII plan funds, an amount of Rs. 11, 79,500/- (Eleven Lakh Seventy thousand Five Hundred Only) has been spent towards the conduct of Seminars and Conferences and participation in international conferences. I am happy to place it on record that during 2013-2014 the infrastructure of the university received sufficient attention. Top priority has been for student amenities such as healthy drinking water, health care, library and sports and games facilities. At present the university has six RO plants and three generator units. Under XII plan funds each department received Rs. 95,000/- exclusively for books and I am sure that the faculty, students and research scholars will get the real benefit of it. During 2013-2014 steps have initiated for the procurement of latest of sophisticated equipment such as NMR and Particle-size analyzer. It is a positive step in the direction of promotion of quality and advanced research. The laying of roads in the campus has been expedited and the construction work of arts block building is accelerated. To encourage innovative pedagogical practices all the departments have been provided LCD equipment and each faculty member has been provided a personal computer. On the administrative domain steps have been taken the streamline office procedures thereby ensuring better accountability and transparency. I appreciate my colleagues who have evinced keen interest in publishing and presenting papers in various fora and also for succeeding in obtaining research projects. I hope that they will maintain the same academic spirit and research aptitude in the days to come. I take this opportunity to congratulate my colleagues who have been granted Raman Fellowship. This year the administration granted Ph. D admissions to Project fellows, regular faculty and Non-teaching Staff. Further steps have been taken to implement Career Advanced Scheme. Certain major decisions with respect to conduct of examinations and admissions have been taken to strengthen the standards and ensure accuracy. Keeping in view the hassles for the students, colleges and staff, the entire pre examination tasks which include processing of the applications, generating nominal rolls and issuing of hall tickets has been computerized. Bar coded examinee specific answer sheets with name, hall-ticket number, paper title and date of examination, have been issued to the candidates to curb malpractices. Observers cum Squad members were deployed to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the examination. It is worth mentioning that the result of YVUCET-2014 was released within 48 hours. The admission mechanism has also been streamlined by providing online access for applying and downloading the hall tickets. Seat allotment process has been computerized to make the process transparent and error-free. I am happy to know that many of our students have excelled in academics and extracurricular activities. I congratulate all our students who have emerged successful in UGC/ CSIR – JRF/ NET/ Competitive examinations and who have brought laurels to the university in sports and games. I wish to acknowledge the commendable work of NSS Cell in organizing extension activities. I congratulate the Annual Report Committee for their strenuous efforts in bringing out the report in an impressive and comprehensive manner. The report not only showcases the various activities undertaken during the specific period but provides insight on the priorities of the university. (B. It is named after a renowned saint-poet and thinker Yogi Vemana who spread the message of equality and self-realization. As an emerging University, to accomplish its goals in all facets, it functions effectively with a steadfast commitment to create and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of society. Yogi Vemana University believes in ―Creation and dissemination of knowledge, attainment of enlightened wisdom and creation of the right academic ambience for the pursuit of true knowledge with character‖ The Globe, the Clouds in the Sky and the Sun symbolically represent the Universe. Vemana after whom the University is named is sitting in the centre of the Universe in his well known posture. The soaring birds signify peace and liberation from earthly pleasures. The Jowar stalk (Sorghum bicolor), on either side of the globe signify the main staple food of the region to which Vemana belongs. The university in its eventful journey towards academic progress gained the confidence to march ahead in pursuit of quality and distinction. The major challenge before us is to utilize and augment the human resources and infrastructural facilities that will enhance the status and reputation of the institution. A Post Graduate centre under the aegis of Sri Venkateswara University once is now a full-fledged university
