Welcome to Rehoboth New Life Center Sunday May 5th 2019 PART 1 “HA SHEM” Proverbs 18:10 ¶The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Ha Shem: The Name THE NAME OF GOD • Philippians 2:6 • Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: • 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; Names THE NAME OF GOD • Adam God has created through the divine inspiration of the bible a • Seth method of establishing its • Enos authorship. Genesis 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters: NAMES THE NAME OF GOD “Enos” • “MORTAL” or “SICK” • Genesis 5:6 ¶And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos: • 7 And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters: • 8 And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died. • Seth's son was called Enosh, which means "mortal," "frail," or "miserable." It is from the root anash: to be incurable; used of a wound, grief, woe, sickness, or wickedness. (It was in the days of Enosh that men began to defile the name of the Living God.1 ) NAMES THE NAME OF GOD • KJV “Cainan” “SORROW” “Kenan” • Genesis 5:9 And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan: • 10 And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters: • Enos‘s son was named Kenan, from which can mean "sorrow," dirge," or "elegy.“ • Balaam, looking down from the heights of Moab, employed a pun upon the name of the Kenites when he prophesied their destruction. THE NAME OF GOD • “HIS DEATH SHALL BRING” “Methusalah” • Genesis 5:21 ¶And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: • 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: • Methuselah comes from two roots: muth, a root that means "death"5 ; and from shalach, which means "to bring," or "to send forth." Thus, the name Methuselah signifies, "his death shall bring." NAMES THE NAME OF GOD • “POOR” or “Lamech” • “MADE LOW” • Genesis 5:25 ¶And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech: • 28 ¶And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son: • A root sword till evident today in our own English word, "lament" or "lamentation." Lamech suggests "despairing." NAMES THE NAME OF GOD • “COMFORT” “Noah” • Genesis 5:29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed. • Noah which is derived from nacham , "to bring relief" or "comfort," as Lamech himself explains. The Prophecy of the names THE NAME OF GOD Adam(Man), Seth(appointed), Enos (mortal) Kenan (but the begotten or maker), Mahaleleel (The blessed God), Jared (shall decend, or come down),Enoch (teaching). Methusalah (his death shall bring) Lamech (the despairing) Noah (Comfort). The first name THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. • God : Elohim • Plural Intensive • Singular in meaning when used with singular verbs! • “God of gods” • “Strong one” When applying to YHWH, ´Elo·him' is used as a plural of majesty, dignity, or excellence. The first “called” names THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. • Called: Hebrew “Qara” • Day: Hebrew “Yom” • Night: Hebrew “Layil” The Naming Event: Dominion Relationship THE NAME OF GOD • The act of naming defines Philippians 2:8 And being found a relationship! in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. • Ruler to Subjects 9 Wherefore God also hath highly • Owner to that owned exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: • Superior to inferior 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things • Creator to Created in heaven, and things in earth, • Master to Disciples and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. God names the things that are his! THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. God Calls! THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. Man Given Dominion! THE NAME OF GOD Genesis 1:26 ¶And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Man, names names! THE NAME OF GOD Genesis 2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. Adam names ….. And again THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. • Genesis 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. 1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety. The “Call” of Abraham THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: • Genesis 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. And “Sarai “ to Sarah God Names….. THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 16:11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, • and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. • Ishmael = "God will hear" Thou shalt have a son and his name! THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. Genesis 18:14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. The change of name….becoming a prince! THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 32:27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. • Genesis 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Joseph: “The Lord has added” THE NAME OF GOD • Genesis 30:24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.
