The new OPD and UCC in Tallaght is due to open in 2020. CHI’s Programme Office, CHI Herberton is located in Rialto, Dublin 8 adjacent to the new children’s hospital which is on the campus shared with St James’s Hospital. This position base site is CHI at Temple Street. Context/ Background Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) operates as a single service across the existing Dublin children’s hospitals, Crumlin, Temple Street and Tallaght. Also, the paediatric outpatients and urgent care centres, Connolly which opened in July 2019 and Tallaght which is due to open in 2021. CHI governs and operates local paediatric services for the Greater Dublin Area and all national paediatric specialist services, some of which are on an all-island basis. Just under 25% of our population are children under 18 years of age. It was estimated in 2016 that 16% of our children have a chronic disease, such as, diabetes, allergies and asthma and this was increasing. 2% are acutely ill or have complex and multiple care needs requiring national services CHI currently has a staff of 4,150 delivering care annually to 334,500 children, young people and their families through 39 clinical specialities and 442 in-patient & day care beds 2019 activity: In-patients 24,500; Day cases 33,500; Outpatients 147,500; ED 129,000 Ireland will have a world class new children’s hospital that is purpose built to deliver the best care and treatments that are available for future generations to come The new children’s hospital, which will open in 2023 will bring together the three children’s hospitals into a world class building on a campus shared with St James’s Hospital. This will be a leading campus in healthcare and research in Ireland, a leading adult teaching hospital, a children’s hospital and in time, a new maternity hospital, when the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital is relocated on the campus. CHI is leading on the clinical and operational transformation on how children’s healthcare will be delivered in the future to deliver better, safer and more sustainable healthcare in the future. The new hospital is planned as the first ‘Digital Hospital’ in the system with the implementation of an Electronic Healthcare Record, as well as, other evidence based standards, such as, 100% single rooms. Purpose of the To lead out on the establishment of a new 3 Tesla MRI service and undertake responsibility Role on a day-to-day basis for 3T MRI service delivery. To work flexibly and collaboratively with the existing MRI Clinical Specialist to provide leadership, guidance and supervision for radiographic and other staff. To adopt a team approach with the MRI Clinical Specialist to successfully manage the entire paediatric MRI service in CHI at Temple Street, with effective utilisation of all resources allocated. To play an active role as needed in MR scanning across the 1.5T and 3T scanners in CHI at Temple Street. To manage in a rapidly changing environment and be willing to undertake such additional duties within the Diagnostic Imaging Department also, as may be assigned from time to time. Principal Duties Professional Duties and Responsibilities: and Operational Management; Responsibilities . Take a lead role in establishing 3T MRI service, to include the undertaking of clinical applications training, protocol development, involvement in the installation process and equipping of the scan room and scan suite etc. Undertake, as team leader, primary responsibility on a day to day basis for the MRI 3T service and effective utilisation of all resources allocated . Collaborate with MR team members in the development of the 3T MRI service across CHI . Contribute to the planning of future MR service provision at the new hospital. Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership . Be accountable for the quality of the MRI 3T service provided including customer service and technical aspects . Implement the highest standards of MRI safety . Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, protocols (Q Pulse) and guidelines, in particular the alignment of MRI practice across the CHI group. Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement or upgrading. Contribute to the preparation of plans for the service – monitor and report on their implementation. Implement and maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with hospital standards. Promote and maintain a safe environment for staff and patients alike . Maintain an up to date knowledge of clinical, technical and radiographic developments in relation to MRI and promote awareness of new developments . Develop and maintain an MRI training function as may be required in relation to qualified staff and/or trainees and students. Supervise and assess all training as required. Ensure that best practices are implemented and maintained . Implement and maintain accurate data on RIS/PACS system in accordance with departmental standards . Report all operational issues to Radiography Services Manager. Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach. Maintain accurate records of equipment service, maintenance, malfunction, downtime and performance as required and co-ordinate preventative maintenance schedules in accordance with clinical demand and department policy. Support the Radiography Services Manager in the implementation of initiatives aimed at on-going service development and improvement. Liaise with the Radiography Services Manager and other senior staff on the rotation of staff through the Department to ensure an adequate number of trained staff are available . Implement and maintain accurate records for patient examinations. Order and maintain appropriate MRI stock levels and liaise with supplies/materials department . Participate in clinical audit as relevant to the post . Assist in the development of Risk Management and Health & Safety strategies in association with appropriate personnel. Liaise with Radiography Services Manager on human resource issues as appropriate . Maintain, at all times, an awareness of the importance of patient care and safety in relation to all Radiology activities. Assist in leading the professional organisation and management of the service with regard to general Radiology department and have an awareness of the resources available within the department. Actively participate in continuing education and research activities consistent with the position. Participate as required by the Radiography Services Manager in other duties within the Radiology department Professional Leadership; . To identify potential areas of paediatric 3T MRI research and initiate/participate in same in partnership with radiology colleagues . To lead, guide and supervise radiographers and other staff, and to successfully manage the paediatric 3T MRI service, with effective utilisation of all resources. Review MRI requests for correct ordering details e.g. MR safety, clinical details. Adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct for Radiographers Communication;. To communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including patients and their families. Effectively communicate problems with staff or equipment to Radiographic Services Manager / Deputy . Liaise with clinical teams re patient queries and problems . Promote a culture of openness where good practice can be both challenged and shared. Develop communication channels that allow a free flow of information to and from senior management.
