A friend of ours, after waiting for hours to get a signature from the singer David Essex, blurted out, ‘I really like you!’. I got very excited when the keyboard wizard Rick Wakeman played our keyboard during an after-dinner speech. I was going to get him to put his signature across it as a memory of the event but didn’t have a marker pen available. Of course, Shadingfield had the excitement a few years ago of welcoming the then Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and his family to join in their worship. Peter, James and John, Jesus’ inner circle, followed Jesus up a mountain. Here they saw Him transfigured in His divine radiance and joined by Elijah and Moses. Overcome with excitement and blurting out the first thing that came to mind, Peter suggested that they build three shelters, one for Jesus, one for Moses and one for Elijah. Seeing Jesus in His full glory, in His clothes of dazzling white, Peter went all to pieces. He had seen the glory of God, as he later recalled in his second letter: For He received honour and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory … We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with Him on the sacred mountain. 2 Peter 1:17-18 When he met God in the burning bush, ‘ … Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God’ (Exodus 3:6). When God’s presence first entered Solomon’s temple ‘ … the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God’ (2 Chronicles 5:14). In our worship, whether through personal daily prayer or gathered together in our church buildings, we come into the pres- ence of God; ‘Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here’. May we come in awe and wonder, in praise and adoration, with thanksgiving and joy. Jesus, stand among us in Thy risen power. May this time of worship be a hallowed hour. Rev Phil WALK THE WAY Between 19th June and 4th September groups from ‘Through Faith Missions’ will be walking the ‘Via Beata’ which passes by Ringsfield Hall. They will be working with local churches along the route. ROBERT PECK Robert Peck’s funeral is on Wednesday 24th February. The service is at All Saint ,Ringsfield with burial at St Peter, Brampton. Our prayers go out to his family at this time. FEBRUARY WORSHIP The Government are due to make an announcement regarding any changes to lockdown on 22nd February. We know that they would like to re-open schools on 8th March, so using this as a guideline we are planning to re-start in-person worship on Sunday 14th March, Mothering Sunday. We will continue Zoom worship up to and including Sunday 7th March. ASH WEDNESDAY & LENT As we won’t be meeting on Ash Wednesday, I have produced a special ‘Daily Prayer for Ash Wednesday’. Also to mark the changing of the churches year, there is ‘Daily Prayer for Lent’.
