Bright GIS December 6, 2007 Introduction z The North Shore is a high density area with no subway access. z Blue line terminates at Wonderland station in Revere… z Massive traffic congestion as a result z We plan to extend the blue line to Salem’s proposed Intermodal station at Ocean Ave Salem Depot Wonderland Station Boston Objectives z Know where.. the best location for a subway station would be. z The station would be located in only high population areas and high traffic congestion. z The final map will have stations as well as the best route from Boston to south Salem. Methods and Data Layers added: Census Tracts, Road as well as traffic data, Town and city layers, MBTA subway and commuter rail lines as well as stops, z We selected census tracts based on population as well as high road congestion to decide where the subway stops would be best used. Results How It Would Work z Blue Line tunnel north of Wonderland under the marsh and Route 1A into Lynn z Tunnel under the Commuter Rail Tracks into Swampscott z Stations at Lynn- Central Sq and Swampscott z Tunnel under Loring Ave north of Danvers Rd in Swampscott Swampscott Lynn- Central Square z Tunnel under Loring Ave into Salem z Station at Vinnin Sq z Parking Garage at Vinnin Sq for car commuters z Tunnel north onto Canal St in Salem to Ocean Avenue at Commuter Rail tracks z Station at Salem State College- Ocean Ave z New auto bridge or tunnel to connect both sides of Ocean Ave z No parking: Drop-offs, Pedestrians and Bus Patrons z Transfer from Commuter Rail to Subway z Does not affect Downtown Salem’s traffic SSC- Ocean Ave Vinnin Square Conclusion z Discussion z Questions??
