ANT-MAN: SECOND-CHANCE MAN VOLUME 1 PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Ramon Rosanas,Nick Spencer | 120 pages | 23 Jun 2015 | Marvel Comics | 9780785193876 | English | New York, United States Ant-Man Vol. 1: Second-Chance Man by Nick Spencer - The humor is equal parts intelligent, slapstick and self-aware of Ant-Man's place Ant-Man Security Solutions: "Who knows how to not get your stuff stolen better than the guy who used to steal your stuff? The humor is equal parts intelligent, slapstick and self-aware of Ant-Man's place in the Marvel pecking order: He's a small timer. Pun intended. Long story short, Scott Lang isn't dead anymore, but he might as well be. Lang can't catch a break. He has no money, no job, no place to live, no credibility and a criminal record nipping at his heels. But will that stop him or dampen his wit? We are treated to a well-paced adventure where Scotty tackles all kinds of tasks thrown his way, from interviewing for jobs and trying to find an apartment to fighting villains who vary from a guy in a grizzly bear suit to gold-making Nazi robots to his ex-wife. In the backdrop we actually have a compelling overarching story line with a familiar villain if you saw the movie that has suitable stakes for the tone of the book. I would really, really recommend you pick this up. Nov 07, Paul E. Morph rated it it was amazing Shelves: comics-read-in Every time I get pissed off with all the crossover 'events' and terrible cash-in books Marvel cranks out on a regular basis I read a book like the new Ant-Man title and I remember why I don't just cancel my Marvel Unlimited subscription. Just like on his previous book, The Superior Foes of Spider-man 1 , Nick Spencer shows us all that there really is no such thing as a bad character By 'bad character' I'm talking about the likes of Grizzly and Mach Every time I get pissed off with all the crossover 'events' and terrible cash-in books Marvel cranks out on a regular basis I read a book like the new Ant-Man title and I remember why I don't just cancel my Marvel Unlimited subscription. This book is crammed to the antennae with action, laughs and good old fashioned heartfelt feels. The story is engaging, the characters are well-written, the artwork is great, the dialogue sparkles To be honest, Ant-Man has everything I want from a comicbook in spades! I hope it has a good, long run. Dec 17, Amy Lawrence rated it it was amazing Shelves: comics. I've been wanting to read an Ant-Man comic since the movie which was a pleasant surprise in July. Every time I go to start reading a new character I get lost on where to begin, however so many people told me to start here and I'm so glad I did. It was funny, had great dialogue and the art style was exactly what I was in the mood for. While this is not the beginning of Scott Lang's story, Nick Spencer definitely feeds you enough info for you to follow along. Definitely surprised with how much I I've been wanting to read an Ant-Man comic since the movie which was a pleasant surprise in July. Definitely surprised with how much I enjoyed this one. May 13, Roxanne rated it it was amazing Shelves: graphic-novels , read , five-stars. I really like Ant-Man it has its moments of being really funny and self deprecating but in typical marvel fashion it still pulls at the ol' heartstrings. I was expecting to get bored of it quickly, i mean how many ant jokes do we possibly need, but it isn't the case it actually turned out to be one of the better marvel comics. Feb 24, Aldo Haegemans rated it really liked it. Very enjoyable and Good humor! Nov 21, Elizabeth N. ThePennilessBooknerd rated it liked it Shelves: genre-comics-manga-graphic-novels , read-in , probably-wont-read-again , 3-stars. After I started paying attention to both equally, the story actually got a bit better. This book is sectioned off into 5 parts. So, 5 individual issues of a modern Ant-Man put together in one book. Where does he apply? Stark Industries, obviously. After a whole interview process and test, Ant-Man fakes being sick to buy more time. What does he do with his time you ask? Breaks into Stark Industries to steal the code he needs to pass the test. And after all that Tony Stark says that he wanted Ant-Man to break in all along, and hires him. I was enjoying it pretty well until the last page when Scott Lang Ant-Man does something, which makes me trust his character less than when I started reading this. He disables their security program to show them how easy it was and that they need his help. When he did that, the backup system kicked in. You know the one. The old killer Nazi robot that just sits in the basement. It shoots fire or something when activated and attacks everything in sight. Probably not the best back up After taking the robot down, Ant-Man is in a vault full of money and thinks about how if he took just a little bit of it, he could give Cassie a better life. Later he goes back to the bank that night to return to money he stole. From this point on there seems to be a more consistent plot. Ant-Man also hired a reformed Villain A man in a bear costume, I forgot his name. Ant-Man SS has been hired to watch a warehouse full of. His old enemy, Taskmaster, shows up they fight while arguing about whether they are arch-enemies or not. Turns out though, it was all a setup. Cross Technological Enterprises hide spoiler ] Individual Rating: 3. He kidnaps Dr. Sondheim to transfer the heart of a healthy person to him. Wanting revenge on Ant-Man, he kidnaps Cassie for her heart. Ant-Man teams up with another reformed villain to hack into the CTE security systems. The heart transplanted, Dr. Sondheim works hard to put a donor heart in Cassie. Ant-Man while fighting Darren Cross, shrinks him. Darren Cross gets away with the help of his son, Ant-Man goes quickly back to Cassie. She becomes stable. Knowing this not to be true, ant-man tries to tell his ex wife but she kind of ignores what he is saying, overcome with emotion about Cassie and what has just happened. Personally I disagree that it would be better for Cassie not to have her dad. The mistake was going in in the first place. TBH, that confused me. Also there were some funny parts, like when Ant-Man was arguing with Taskmaster about if he was his arch-enemy or not. Sorry if I missed anything or if there were any typos! Hope this review was helpful. View all 4 comments. Shelves: books-i-own , comics-graphic-novels. This, with its wry sense of humor, is just what I needed. This comic, through strong writing, does a lot for humanizing the character with self- deprecating comedy and making the reader root for the underdog. Of course, he also happens to do some superhero-y stuff whether he wants to or not. Tons of hilarity ensues. Carry on. May 06, Artemy rated it it was amazing Shelves: 5-stars , marvel , comics. I started to read this book because of the upcoming movie, and honestly I didn't know anything about Ant-Man and Scott Lang in particular before. It is a great introduction to the character. It's also funny, action-y but not too much, just as I like it , and it has this very nice, heartwarming feeling because of Scott's relationship with his daughter, Cassie who is awesome, by the way, and whom I adore since the Young Avengers. The book feels like a hybrid between I started to read this book because of the upcoming movie, and honestly I didn't know anything about Ant- Man and Scott Lang in particular before. So if you like that stuff, or if you want to check out some Ant-Man comic books before or after the movie comes out, definitely pick up this volume. Pretty standard Spencer stuff here, highly irreverent and funny! Plenty of throwbacks and nods to his work on Superior Spider-man, including appearances by Beetle and Grizzly. Definitely worth checking out, not far off in tone from the recent Ant-Man film. I give this volume 3 out of 5, because View 2 comments. Sep 02, Ma'Belle rated it it was ok Shelves: marvel , comics-graphic- novels , superheroes. I definitely had higher expectations for this. Nick Spencer's Superior Foes books were very enjoyable, and it's clear Marvel considers him one of their handful of writers to take on the sillier, more self-deprecating and tongue-in-cheek titles. Unfortunately, all the jokes in these comics fell completely flat, and I couldn't care less about the characters by the end of it. Jun 24, Jaclyn Hogan rated it it was amazing Shelves: this-made-me-laugh , comics-and-superheroes. This gives me a ton of hope for the upcoming Ant-Man movie. The character is funny and incredibly heart felt.
