2002 SENATE RESOLUTION 02-008 BY SENATOR(S) Epps, Anderson, Andrews, Arnold, Cairns, Chlouber, Dyer, Entz, Evans, Fitz-Gerald, Gordon, Hagedorn, Hanna, Hernandez, Hillman, Isgar, Lamborn, Linkhart, Matsunaka, McElhany, Musgrave, Nichol, Owen, Pascoe, Perlmutter, Phillips, Reeves, Takis, Tate, Taylor, Teck, Thiebaut, Tupa, and Windels. CONCERNING HONORING THE COLORADO MOUNTED RANGERS. WHEREAS, The Colorado Mounted Rangers have served and protected the territory and the state of Colorado since 1861; and WHEREAS, The Colorado Mounted Rangers, previously known as the Colorado Rangers, comprised the first law enforcement agency in the new territory of Colorado; and WHEREAS, The Colorado Rangers were called upon by the state's Governors to protect the state during the mining strikes and the Prohibition period; and WHEREAS, In 1923, the Colorado Rangers were disbanded, leaving Colorado without a statewide law enforcement organization until the Colorado State Patrol was formed; and WHEREAS, In 1941, by request of then Governor Teller Ammons, a volunteer group in Bailey, Colorado, formed the Colorado Mounted Rangers whose primary function was to promote the state of Colorado by holding livestock shows and appearing on radio shows and in motion pictures; and WHEREAS, Today, the Colorado Mounted Rangers assist the Office of Emergency Management; train with and assist the Colorado Office of Preparedness and Security; provide security in emergency situations such as airline disasters, search and rescue operations, and forest fires; and provide assistance to local, state, and federal authorities as requested; and WHEREAS, The Colorado Mounted Rangers have assisted in natural disasters such as the Big Thompson Flood and the Black Ridge Fire; and WHEREAS, While conducting search and rescue efforts over the last 20 years, the Colorado Mounted Rangers have saved the lives of many lost and injured mountain climbers and bikers; and WHEREAS, In the last year, the Colorado Mounted Rangers volunteered over 10,000 hours of devoted service to the people of Colorado; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-third General Assembly of the State of Colorado: That we, the members of the Senate of the Sixty-third General Assembly, recognize and honor the countless hours of dedicated service the Colorado Mounted Rangers have devoted to the state of Colorado since 1861. ____________________________ ____________________________ Stan Matsunaka Karen Goldman PRESIDENT OF SECRETARY OF THE SENATE THE SENATE PAGE 2-SENATE RESOLUTION 02-008.
