Dr. Frank-Jürgen Richter Chairman Horasis: The Global Visions Community Switzerland 2 Welcome Welcome to Malaga or as we say “bienvenidos.” As the Mayor, I affirm that it is an honour and a privilege for the city to host, between June 24 and 25, the celebration of the Horasis India Meeting, the largest world economic summit aimed at analysing both the globalization of Indian companies and investment opportunities presented by this Asian country in Spain and specifically in our city. Malaga, capital of the popular tourist destination known as the “Costa del Sol,” will bless us with its natural and monumental attractions during the coming days, while at the same time offering the best hospitality of its citizens, who in love with the charming aspects of their land and with deep respect for their traditions and customs, know how to welcome visitors with open arms. In this great Spanish Mediterranean city, exceptional for its strategic location and for its communication infrastructures which easily connect Malaga with Europe and the rest of the world, you will not only find magnificent places for your work meetings but you can also discover the capabilities of a territory with unparalleled advantages for trade and commerce with a talented and qualified workforce. Malaga, a desirable city to live, is capable of attracting investors seeking to find privileged locations to work. As part of this welcome, I would like to inform you that during these days our qualified international economic development team is available to all those interested in exploring the many capabilities that the city has to offer. Malaga and its citizens, with an intelligent and innovative vision, work relentlessly to compete with other European capitals while always mindful of one unique added value: our natural surroundings and environment that we respect, preserve and invigorate so that many generations can experience those singular values. I look forward to the discussions and hope that you all have a productive meeting. Once again, welcome to Malaga. Francisco de la Torre Prados Mayor City of Malaga Spain 3 Welcome The Costa del Sol has come to be one of the most important destinations in the world. There is a host of reasons for this: 325 days of sunshine per year, our benign climate, more than 160 kilo me ters of beaches stretching along the Málaga coastline, our impressive natural landscapes and monuments, the first-class hotel infrastructure that we offer throughout the province... Our fine gastronomy, a limitless number of leisure services, the fact of being the perfect setting for congresses and a golfing paradise with more than 70 world-class courses and, of course, our deep-rooted traditions and customs, or the charm of our famous White Villages in the interior. All these features make for a land rich in contrasts. One should keep in mind the excellent air links with major European cities, not forgetting the sea and railway connections. Another outstanding feature is our modern network of highways and expressways. However, the province of Málaga has much more to offer and will continue to surprise you. We have new secrets for you to discover, such as the fact that we have become a cultural destination of the first rank, revolving around the figure of the art genius Picasso. We are, in short, a first-class destination every day of the year. Sun and Beach tourism certainly continues to be the essential feature of the Costa del Sol, but if we add to the comprehensive offer already mentioned the wealth of other segments such as languages or Health and Beauty tourism that have helped us move beyond being a seasonal destination, the Costa del Sol becomes a place to be enjoyed all twelve months of the year. Elias Bendodo President, Province of Malaga and President, Costa del Sol Tourist Board 4 Welcome India’s GDP expanded by 6.7% in 2017-18 and is considered to be one of the fastest growing major economies in the world. The IMF expects the Indian economy to grow by a further 7.4% in 2018 and 7.8% in 2019. We expect that India’s GDP would rise from $2.3 trillion today to about $5 trillion by 2025 with an average income of over $5,000. This projection is based on an accelerated reforms agenda undertaken by the Government in the last few years. India’s economic strategy is to give businesses the confidence and the right environment for propelling growth. At the same time, the government has stressed social security to poorer sections of society so that the fruits of growth spread to all. The highlights of this strategy, especially in the past year, are easing the regulatory environment for business, harmonization of indirect taxes across the country through the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and facilitating foreign investment across sectors. A fair bit of success has been achieved in each of these areas. A dynamic ranking of States on ease of doing business is spurring action at the local level. India has moved 30 spots to 100 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business list. FDI inflows have increased steadily to touch US$ 60 billion in 2016-17. India’s exports have been recovering steadily and grew at over 12 per cent in the first three quarters of 2017-18. The banking system is being restructured to reduce the level of non-performing assets. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code is being used by the RBI to speed up recoveries. These structural changes are bringing about a paradigm shift in the Indian economy and this year’s Horasis India Meeting is the ideal platform to put across the positive impact these changes are having on business and investment. Chandrajit Banerjee Director General Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) India 5 Co-hosts of the Horasis India Meeting The City of Malaga is a Mediterranean seaport on the Costa del Sol in the Andalucía region of southern Spain.
