The two groups that fought in the French and Indian War were the British and the French. The Indians were allies for both and fought for both sides. What were the groups fighting over? The French and the British were fighting over more land. Both sides wanted to be the most powerful in the New World. The biggest empire = most land = more money. What was the outcome of the war? The outcome of the war was that Great Britain got control of Canada and the land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mississippi River. They were now the most powerful country in the world. The English were attracted to the New World. I know this because they wanted more natural resources, better trading, and to start new colonies. 2. I know this because John Cabot had claimed the region for England over 100 years before Henry Hudson claimed it for Holland. 4. The English took over the colony of New Netherland when Richard Nicolls and four ships of soldiers were sent there to take the land. Peter Stuyvesant, the Dutch leader, surrendered peacefully. 5. Richard Nicolls plan to get people to settle in Albania was to entice them to come. He told them they can buy land for a cheap price, and have more freedom to make their own laws. 6. Philip Carteret replaced Nicolls as governor of Albania. His special announcement to the settlers was that they could practice their religion of choice and make their own laws. He also told them that they had to pay property tax. 7. Queen Anne of England united the colony of New Jersey. 8. The reason the people of NJ want their own governor is because a shared governor couldn’t give the needed attention to the colony. 9. The main reason for the French and Indian War was land. 10. The last royal governor in the colony of Ney Jersey was William Franklin .
